2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Description

12 Passenger (10 Installed) conversion van/iron tent. Comfortably sleeps 2 Adults and 4 Children. Have used for road trips and for camping. Comes with 45 Quart Refrigerator/Freezer, shortened queen-size bed frame (futon mattress not included), solar panel, and separate passenger cabin electrical system with 8 USB charging ports.

The quick answers to the mileage and why are we selling. This van was used as a long distance airport shuttle with a weekly run of 4000 miles. Most of the miles were rural freeway. We wanted to try downsizing our camping rig so we purchased it with 480k miles to see if we liked the size. We love the size but would like a different configuration. It will be easier to start fresh as our family size is smaller so are selling.

At the beginning of our conversion 18 months ago the entire interior behind the B-pillar was removed and denim insulation was installed. Insulation was also added in the driver cabin. Many hooks for cargo and other needs were placed as well. New carpeting and a host of other refreshing was done to the interior.

A backup camera was added to the van when the new radio was installed. Stealth input for an iPhone/Android was made in the dash so the phone can be accessible to the driver but not visible on the outside. A hands-free microphone was also installed. Pandora and HD Radio. Satellite radio ready.

The electrical system is compatible with Ham Radio equipment and uses the popular Anderson Powerpole connectors common in Amateur and Emergency radio applications. The fused hub has a group 24 AGM battery for use while the engine is off. The battery can charge from the supplied solar panel or when the engine is running. The system supports 8 USB charging ports in the passenger cabin as well as 2 additional 12v receptacles to augment the MB supplied receptacles. Some LED lighting was installed. There is ample room for growth.

The MaxxAir 7500k fan can be set to run based on temperature or just adjusted manually with the remote control. We like it to blow outside air in at night and during the day to blow the hot inside air out when the vehicle is parked (favorite feature for the dog). It runs in the rain without drip-through.

Beneath the MaxxAir is the Queen bed. The platform bed height was set so that you could sit up and not hit the ceiling with your head. This allows for ample storage (or room for two kids to sleep) below.

It has a trailer hitch and is wired for a trailer brake. Ample sized running board. Oil change completed in April 2017. Service records are available.

In the last 180k miles the vehicle received a rebuilt engine, transmission, and turbo, plus a new DEF system and driveline. The rooftop A/C has been rebuilt and it doesn't leak. Just put in new rear brakes before the last trip.

Known issues:

  • Suspension work. The front suspension needs some attention. We just completed a 600 mile trip with no passenger complaints.
  • TPMS: The Tire Pressure Monitoring system shows a warning on the dash. I made sure to include it on a photo. The tires themselves have been checked and are fine. There is a faulty sensor. Tread ranges from 7-11/32.
  • The dash will sometimes show a bulb out warning. It is for the license plate frame bulb. The bulb works fine but the impedance is off so the computer triggers.
  • Drivers Seat: Like the suspension, it has the wear of the full mileage. Still comfortable but the picture shows the wear.
  • Two dents: They are both in the rear and in the photos. They don't affect function. Apparently the van was in a fender bender years ago.
  • Emergency Escape window is missing part of a handle.
  • I left the wiring in for a ceiling mounted DVD/TV. The unit that came with the van didn't come with a secure enough mount for my tastes. The amplifier for the rear dedicated DVD player speakers will also come with the van but is not installed either. Two additional seats will come as well. The mounting holes and hardware are ready for re-install.

We are happy to pick up at the airport (Reno) or delivery arrangements are possible along I-80 in the West—please feel free to ask.
