1972 Mercedes Benz 250 w114 Strich8 M30 2.8L One owner family, 20yrs stored
1972 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Sedan Description
1972 Mercedes-Benz 250
This car was purchased 10/19/1972 by "Mr. Keith" out of CleburneTexas 76031. Mr. Keith purchased this 1972 Mercedes 250 Sedan for his lovely wife at the tune of $8,319.05. She didn't like to drive all that much. So the car was used sparingly. So much so the careventually was covered and properly stored in their climate controlled garage... for a better part of 20 yrs. Eventually, the ownership fell into the daughter's possessionwhere it was driven and registered for a few years until 2005... until it was stowed away in the same garage after having carburetortroubles... A common Achilles heel.
The cars previously finicky dual Zenith Carbs have been professionallygone through. The carb specialist who worked on the car enjoyed bringing it back to life after it's deep multi-decade long sleep. The cars fuel lines, gas tank, fuel filters have all been changed. The M30 Engine compression I was told is very good. It sounds very good!
The cars current condition; Runs, Drives, and Stops.I've been so busy I haven'tbeen givingit the attention it deserves. It needs to be driven to blow the cobwebs out! But there are a few more things to make it road safe.
.
-There's still work to be done to make this car a completely solid daily driver. -The car's brakes could use a good bleed and I'd even go as far as replacing the brake master cylinderjust for good measure. (safety) as well as changing out the thermostat and rodding the radiator, having it pressured tested... These are fairly simple and cost effectivethings-- under $250.. that must be done in order for the car to perform at a high level.
-The AC connections are all there and I even have purchased a york compressor to install that is included with the sale of the car.
-The passenger seat headrest is loose and will need to be reattached and tightened.
-The car's gas float needs to be cleaned to show proper fuel level reading.
-The cars vacuum locks work, locking all four doors and the trunk when locking the driver side.
-All of the center chrome trim is in great shape.. except the few dings on the trunk trim.
-The grills chrome trim is in great shape but could use a new verticle chrome piece.
-The car'scosmetics are at a caliber of a concourse 1 vehicle.I've never seen any other w114 or w115 that's unrestored on this level.
-The car comes with the original owner's manual, maintenancebooklet, new car pre-delivery inspection sheet, original dealer invoice, letter to new owner etc,.
-It's one thing to be rust free.. and then it's another to see stock window decals and protective vinylsleeves under the seats, and not one dash crack in the center stereo grill. This car is completely original and unrestored... after spending 20 years in a garage.
-It has two brand new tires from Discount Tire on the back that were installed after the originalsweren't keeping air when it was moved from the garage .. go figure!
The car has the original Becker Radio Stereo, but it currently is disconnected after a newer unit was put in the early 2000's. It is currently still wired for the newer radio, but I am giving both the original and new unit with the sale.
Being the car was covered and stored in a climate controlled garage it saved the car from the usual problem areas you'll find with this model. There is absolutelyno rust in the trunk or fenders or anywhere else on the chassis of this vehicle. The car's undercarriage is solid, even having remnantsof the factory protective coating. MB glass throughout.
Unfortunatelyeven with the car being properly stored there was a small pest somewhere along the line... who nibbled a small area of the black pebble firewall. (I have sourced where to find new OEM rubber pebble firewall replacement $90)
There is also was a small pinhole leak in the window washer fluid tank that slowly dripped corroding the battery tray over years of sitting in the garage. But other than that this car screams concoursperfection and has to be one of the finest examples I have ever seen.
With the summer fastly approaching here in AZ and my time & garage space filled... I have decided that it's only fair to the car.. to find it a new home so it can continue its life in a nice shaded garage. This car with a professional detail and wax would scream even more than then it does now with its Olive green original paint. The paint has been untouched (detailed)for over a decade!
The Cognac MB-Tex is in amazing soft supple condition, free from any tears.
One can assume there are insect dings, door dings, and scuffs but I have to say I've never seen a car look so good, with just a handwash.
Pre-Purchase inspections welcome, I'm more than willing to provide more pictures or videos of the car actually driving... and of the engine as I just ran out of picture space!
