1974 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Description

This 450SL sunroof Coupe has just over 149,000 miles. It sat in storage for the last 15 years. When it was parked it had new Cooper Cobra radial tires put on. They had never been driven on until I picked up the car a about a year ago and have less than 100 miles on them. And although the mechanic who had it stored, told me he started it every few months and let it run, I ended up having to go through the fuel system and purchased a new battery and OEM fuel pump to get it running decent. The car has a strong motor and does not leak oil or blow any smoke. The leather seats in the back have never been replaced and are in great condition. The front driver seat had a tear so I had both front seats recovered in original leather so they both would match. The driver's seat sustained a small tear in the back by my upholsterer, which you can see in the picture, but it is not noticeable unless the seat is forward. The dash unfortunately has cracks in it (see Pics), but overall this car is very presentable. The AC has not been converted from R12 to the R134a and that would need to be done for the air to get colder (easy and fairly inexpensive) The fans work and the compressor, so it just needs to be charged with the newer legal refrigerant. The only other issue I can think of is the cruise control has been disconnected, so I don't know if it works or not, also the original red floor mat on the front driver's side is not perfect due to the rubber foot pad cracking and carpet unraveling. I have black mats over both fronts. The paint is in very nice condition with just a few minor flaws here and there (a few surface scratches). It was repainted approximately one year ago. Everything else works including the original Becker Europa radio, sunroof and windows. The buy it now price is well below the book value of this car and the starting bid price would be a steal! It would be a great driver and the one undervalued classic Mercedes model poised to rise significantly in value. These SLC Coupes are less problematic than the convertibles and even better with a sun roof. This one also has the EFI electronic fuel injection, which most mechanics agree is better than the later CFI injection systems installed in the later cars.
