1979 Mercedes 450sl - RUST FREE! DREAM CAR!!!
1979 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Description
Presenting for Your Motoring Pleasure: a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL with 126,000 original miles.I am very appreciative of garage kept cars, because I notice that systems like body rubber, paint, and even chrome has less sun and weather damage. This car fits into the category of a garage kept car, due to the overall freshness of many items.
Excellent appearance aside, this car drives like new. Front suspension + steering, engine response + soundtrack, transmission shift points + shift quality and rear axle system all exhibit as-new driving characteristics. I could go down a list of typical W107 front squeaks, rear clunks, slipping shifts, and engine maladies that crop up with high miles and/or needed maintenance. This car suffers from none of this. It is tight, responsive, quiet and smooth. Every time I drive this car, I am filled with moments of appreciation and amazement at the speed and agility of W107 cars in general, this one in particular. Even parking is entertaining, due to the compact size, excellent steering, and proper visibility from the large glass area. Of course, this is even better with the top down. All mechanical, electrical and climate control systems are up to par. The airconditioningblows strong cold air. Both power windows operate like they should.
The interior is stunning! The special real wood grain and leather wrapped steering wheel (with matching shift knob) are just superb.
A car is original only once.Full owner's manuals and stamped service books, original paint and low miles make for an investment quality car. The original Mercedes-Benz alloy wheelshave been replaced withpristine chrome aftermarket wheels(see photos). Not as visible, but of utmost importance: a rust free body structure. The car is pristine underneath.
While driving, I took note of engine temperature, oil pressure and other gauge readings. It is important to note that during my driving of this car, coolant temperature readings were very stable. Getting this car in top working order involved a German Factory Trained Mercedes-Benz Technician, who eats, sleeps and breathes Mercedes. Short of putting this car on a proving ground test track (which I simulated on the road), every aspect of this car was put to the test and evaluated by the tech.
I took the car to Coach Craft in Lexington, KY to have a new convertible top added. Coach Craft is the best. Check them out online. The car also comes with its original hardtop.
I could spend additional time expounding on the positive attributes of this car. However, this is where I stop to point out a few flaws in the Masterpiece. The dash does exhibit a small amount of cracking due to age. Small spot of clear coat missing from trunk lid. While the flaws are not obtrusive, due to the value of the car, it is important that potential buyers have absolutely clear and accurate information about each portion of the car.
Included with the car are additions I have purchased:- New convertible top from Coach Craft- New, top of the line NAPA car battery - Mercedes-logoed seat covers- Mercedes-logoed cockpit cover (a great add-on, so easy to put on for daily basis use)- Hood insulator- Car cover- Hardtop stand with cover (if purchased locally - already assembled)- Mercedes-logoed license plate frame- Mercedes-logoed key tag w/ two keys.
Car is insured with State Farm for $30,000. Monthly premium is just $27/month.
In summary, have your hair done. You will get many looks & much attention while driving this beauty.
