STK 2100 2003 Mercedes SL55 AMG The Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG - a Viper with breeding. Take everything you know about the Mercedes-Benz SL500 - beautiful styling, abundant horsepower, quick handling - and multiply it by five and you have the SL55 AMG. Experience 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and strong acceleration to 155 mph (where the computer caps the power).
Each AMG engine is hand-built in Affalterbach, Germany from pieces balanced and matched to work in perfect harmony. That alone would be enough to make most of us happy, but then AMG fits a high-pressure Lysholm supercharger that pumps out 11.6 psi of boost. Add an air/water intercooler, and you dyno at 493 bhp / 6100 rpm. Mercedes backs-up this monster with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Optimum Gear Selection mode that knows exactly when to shift for maximum acceleration. The front strut suspension and 5-link rear suspension are enhanced with Mercedes' ABC Active Suspension system for yaw control.
The vented disc brakes are huge - 14.2 in. front, 13.0 rear (the fronts with 8-piston calipers). They utilize Mercedes' electronic brake system that can vary brake pressure at each wheel for shorter stopping distances.
Beneath the folding hardtop (16 seconds) is the beautiful interior finished in AMG's own leather and trims that include traditional wood and sand-cast aluminum. Seats have large side bolsters, AMG's instruments with silver faces and red needles. 'SpeedShift' buttons for the automatic transmission are incorporated into the steering wheel.
