1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Description
1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7
This car is being sold as is. I inherited this from my grandmother. She was the only owner, bought new. It shows 2 owners now as I have titled it into my name.
The car itself is in pretty nice condition. The interior is in great condition, burgundy leather. I think we sat in the back seat twice in it's lifetime. There is an area shown by front tire down by the bottom that has rust, and a beginning surface spot on same location on drivers front tire area, but nothing like the pic shown by the passengers front tire pic shown.
The car had an obvious oil leak from looking at where it was parked under the carport. I saw oil on the top of the motor and changed the valve cover gaskets. I took it out for a drive and after 25 minutes I heard a noise coming from the motor. I checked the oil, there was only about 2 quarts in it according to the stick and I saw oil leaking on the ground from underneath the front, but nothing anywhere on the top side.
This car needs engine work now, to what extent I do not know, it is still drive able, but it would need oil every 20 minutes or so I would say because that is what happened to me. It has not been driven since but started weekly. The transmission is great and drove nicely.
The windows are manual. I don't know for sure what size motor it is, I got information from a site that says Windsor 302 only manufactured October 78- October 79 in the U.S. (shown below)
This car would be nice for that year Cougar collector who could fix or replace the motor. Oh, the leather top is not in good condition, it has little separations scattered throughout on it. The tires seem nice. There are no dents on the car, there is a surface scratch on the drivers side that was caused by a bush cutting carried past. The drivers side seat belt needs help extending but goes back fine. On the drivers side top fender line there is an area of paint fade.
The car is licensed and fully insured while it sits here, I would like to sell it since I can not use it and cancel the insurance once you pick it up. The car must be paid for within 3 days of auction close to the purchaser. Cashiers check (or cash in person if you are local). NO PAYPAL accepted. Time line to pick up is negotiable but must be within 30 days, I don't want to keep paying insurance on it any longer than I have to, and it can not be here without tags and insurance by law.
There are no hidden fees or other add ons to this purchase.
YOU the buyer are responsible for pick up whether you do it yourself or make arrangements for another party to do so.
YOU the buyer are responsible to pay the title transfer fee and taxes or what ever your state requires. I have a clean Florida title in hand, the tags and registration do not go with the car.
So just to be clear, as the buyer the ONLY thing you will pay me is the sold price of the car, the rest you pay for whenever you decide to change it over to whomever it is required, as well as pick up. I stated the car must be paid for in full within 3 days of purchase.
It is also stated pick up must be within 30 days of purchase. The car will remain fully insured during this period and will not be driven, should a plane land on it or a tree fall on it, I am covered.
If you have any questions I will answer to the best of my ability.
*Note: the interior is dark burgundy as shown better by the pic of the back seat, showing light for some reason.
