1956 Mercury Other Description
This car is a complete customized restore. It is a 1956 Mercury Monclair 2 door hardtop body mounted on a 1995 Ford Crown Vic frame and drivetrain. The engine is a 4.6 liter v8 with the 6 speed automatic transmission. The heater/ac box unit was mounted into the firewall, so the car has AC/heat and the vacuum controls from the 95 crown Vic. Because the ac unit was mounted into the firewall, there was no room for the original 56 hood hinges. Therefore, a "flip-up" hood was used from a 86 Buick lesabre. The lower half of the front fenders were cut and welded to the body and the upper fenders welded to the hood and affixed to hinge mechanism. It does have new front windshield and side glass.....minus the back glass and the 2 small front pivot glass(I have them, but not installed). Has new rubber seals around front and back glass.Car drives great and smooth down the road. Drive it often and take it to KC(hour and 1/2 one way). Never trailer it because it was made to drive, Cruises the interstate at 80 very well and still gets 21 mpg doing it. Gets better mpg at 60(around 25). This car drives and handles 10 times better than it ever did coming straight out of the factory.
Please Note: this car is a Complete customization/fabrication. The underneath of the trunk lid is still unfinished, but was given a coat of fiberglass. I would consider it a "rat-rod" vs. a show car. The trunk is not finished out. There are also imperfections throughout the car to keep it from being a show car. Ex.(door gap between fenders are rather wide. Door hinges need adjusted for better door alignment when opening and closing. Missing some stainless to finish the car. Door seals are original(hard and cracked.....however, the front and back glass rubbers are new). The rear tires are the original from the crown Vic, but the front tires are smaller and narrower to fit the wheel wells while turning. There are some chips in the paint(door edges, etc.). Paint is not show quality(In my opinion)
Can work out shipping arrangements or drive it to you or you can drive it home.

On Mar-03-17 at 19:57:58 PST, seller added the following information:Note: wipers do not work.(vacuum pod is very weak. I checked it out of the vehicle when dash was out and it worked...but, that wasn't under a load. So, once I put it in, it wouldn't hardly pull the wipers)

On Mar-04-17 at 05:14:26 PST, seller added the following information:Fuel gauge is stuck on full....the sending unit must be hung up in the tank...because I tested the resistance with another unit and the gauge moved.(haven't had time to fix).
On Mar-04-17 at 06:36:52 PST, seller added the following information:I fell in love with this car when it was in my dad's pasture when I was 13. When I turned 16, I asked dad if I could have it and he said, "why do you want that car, ...it will cost a fortune to fix up"? I told him I could fix it for $5000 or less.....he gave it to me. It sat there for another 22 years before i drug it out and began to work on it(that was 10 years ago). I took my daily driver(95 crown Vic I gave $1300 for) and started the conversion. So,...$1300 for the car,...$700 on glass and seals,...$800 on paint...$600 on tires,...$300 on instrument gauges...and $300 on misc(speed sensor, plugs, cam sensor, Monroe air shocks, red/white fabric(my wife sewed the seat covers...not tucked tight by professionals...but I think she did great). Therefore, if the car goes to someone who appreciates it for what it is, and not disappointed for what it isn't....I will be happy with that and willing to let it go for little of nothing. There are several gentleman in my area who have several classics that they show. They turn their noses at my car and laugh and scoff. However, I take pride in the fact that I have less in my car then they have in their engines that they hired someone to rebuild....I have less in it than they put in to their paint job that they hired done,...and,...I drive mine all over(unafraid of scratching...getting better gas mileage...unafraid of putting on miles). .......while they are loading theirs on a trailer to haul them 100 miles.
