Priced at over $58,000 when new over 21 years ago, Mitsubishi's 3000GT Spyder was an engineering marvel - if a sales flop back in the day due to its high price point. These incredible cars were engineered by Heinz Prechter and his company, American Sunroof Corporation for Mitsubishi during just two model years, 1995 and 1996. This car is one of just 376 produced and one of just 184 in this color combination. The history of this particular Spyder is known; it was purchased new by an old neighbor of mine in south-central Virginia and stayed with them until just two years ago, when it went out on the market and bounced around a few dealers before finding a short-term home late last year with a client of mine, a retired U.S. Navy Admiral in North Carolina. A few short weeks ago, I sold him a gorgeous Jaguar E-Type; when I delivered that to him last week, he decided to consign the Spyder with me rather than have two play cars.

John bought this Spyder from a large collector car dealership last December and immediately put it into the shop for new Z-rated Uniroyal Tiger Paws, a timing belt service, drive belts, oil service, a new ABS control unit and a fair amount besides. The car has covered fewer than 500 miles since that extensive service.

The car is absolutely straight down both sides and wears all of its original VIN stickers on every panel. In the interest of full disclosure, the hood and front bumper appear to have been repainted but likely only to correct stone chips from driving out in the countryside - the original owners lived in a rural area and this is completely understandable. The quality of the work is first-rate.

All emblems and trim are original and excellent as one would expect from a supremely well-preserved example.

The license plate is capped by a backup camera that is part of the new Pioneer infotainment system.

Gorgeous from every angle, a truly striking grand tourer.

Indeed, the Spyder is considerably more elegant than its coupe counterpart. The late Heinz Prechter didn't design ugly cars...

The original projector-beam headlamps and fogs are pit-free and work fantastically as does everything else. It's like owning a one year old example.

Taking a look inside, the dash, console, carpet and seats are in excellent condition with no cracks or fading.

The driver's seat barely exhibits any entry wear at all. Fore and aft as well as tilt are power with manual rake; what's more, you also have adjustable side bolsters and lumbar support. This is a very comfortable place to be!

Door panel is unmarked and as new.

Much the same on the passenger's side.

The passenger's seat is manual but no less comfortable!

The controls for the driver's seat lumbar and bolster adjustments are on the joystick below the cigar lighter.

While the original Infinity for Mitsubishi AM/FM Stereo Cassette with graphic equalizer comes with the car, we sort of doubt you'll go back to it. This brand-new cutting-edge Pioneer does everything but drive the car for you. Bluetooth phone and media, USB in the center console compartment, analog and HD radio and much more.

The original automatic power antenna works well, which is sort of a rarity as I understand it!

The rear seat on the Spyder is more of a suggestion than anything, think Porsche 911!

Not unlike a 911, the rear seats are much more useful when down, particularly when the top is in the trunk, as this is your luggage space in that event. The little storage compartment holds the emergency wrench to work the top if battery power is lost.

Interestingly, the original steering wheel audio controls work with the new Pioneer unit. This was a great installation! Once again, all original power accessories and options work flawlessly, I put around 60 miles on the car after bringing it home in preparation for sale.

Lit and running as you see here!

Triple accessory gauges in the center of the dash.

The original owner's manual and stereo anti-theft code card as well as the original remote, key and keyring. The extensive manual for the new stereo is also in the glove compartment.

With the top raised, the trunk is quite spacious.

Spare wheel lives below the trunk floor, as usual!

Unlike most aftermarket conversions of any sort, the Spyder is striking top up or down.

Just a terrific looking car from every angle.

Pardon the flash spots, but the headlining is spotless. The top works flawlessly as most of these do, they were substantially overbuilt.

Etched into each of the rear sinde windows...

Original anti-theft radio sticker in the passenger side door window.

Chrome 17" factory alloy wheels are nice and straight with fresh rubber as mentioned. The locking lug key is with the car. Here we are at left front going counter-clockwise.

There are a few light scratches in two spokes of the right rear wheel which the camera did not pick up.

The 3 liter 24V DOHC V-6 was just serviced with a new timing belt and accessory drive belts as well as a 3,750 mile interval service by the Mitsubishi dealer in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It is absolutely ready to go in every respect and is as clean underhood as you would expect of a 17,036 mile car.

Original insulation pad underhood.

The original body number plate underhood.

The VIN sticker in the driver's door jamb.

Seen here the three page, $2,145 bill from less than a year ago for a number of repairs to include timing, air conditioning and power steering belts, synthetic oil service, wiper blades, a new taillamp, a new ABS control module and a few other items.

payment/shipping

This 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder is being sold on consignment for its private owner. Please understand that this is an unusual 21 year old car hand-built by men and not gods - and is thus sold as-is, where-is with no implied or stated warranty or guarantee; please be realistic about your expectations as cars have changed quite a lot in the last two decades.

As stated above in the listing, I and our consignor's dealership service department have looked over this car thoroughly and believe it to be in extremely good health based on many years of experience with other sports, classic and unusual cars of all types over many years.

Full payment is due within seven days of auction close unless discussed with me in advance of your bid. Your winning bid is a contract to buy, not just to look or for first right of refusal; the only reason your contract would be null and void is if it was found that I wilfully misrepresented the car in the above description. Accepted forms of payment include a cleared certified cheque or wire transfer in the bank, or cash in person on pickup (no cash via the mail, eBay!) should you come for the car in person. I recommend advance payment so that I can mail you the clear title and you can register and insure it in your state prior to taking delivery. If you feel you need to inspect the car prior to purchase, please arrange and have this inspection done prior to placing a successful bid, I welcome your visit.

Shipping or pickup must occur within fourteen days of auction close unless discussed with me in advance of your bid. As I am also a collector car dealer, I am happy to refer you to one of the high-quality open or enclosed collector car shipping companies that we use frequently in the normal course of business - and I cannot stress enough the importance of using such a carrier and not a random transport broker or carrier you might find online, particularly as this is a unique special interest car in phenomenal condition. For international buyers, I can carry the car to the port of Savannah at modest cost or to other ports for a nominal fee, though shipping beyond the U.S. border must be entirely arranged for and paid by you. Please contact me if you need any referrals for assistance with logistics and I'll be happy to help.

I reserve the right to cancel all bids and end the auction early at any time during the course of the sale should a sale occur outside of eBay as the car has been offered quietly through other channels over the past week. I typically do not do this at all and only when full payment has been received from such a buyer will the auction be pulled.
