Street legal Time Attack Twin Turbo 300ZXThe car has just been serviced with all new fluids, timing belt, water pump, cam and crank seals, belt tensioners and new upgraded cam gears. The rear differential bushings were also replaced. The master cylinder was also replaced. The car has been professionally maintained and any maintenance, repair or replacement was performed. The car has passed emissions testing in GA in August of 2015Details: ENGINEThe engine is balanced and blueprinted, with forged internals. The cylinder heads have been ported and polished and all intake and exhaust manifolds port matched for maximized flow. The engine was designed and built by Sunbelt Performance Engines in 2001 in cooperation with Jim Wolf Technologies. The crankshaft is nitrided and pistons are Swain coated. Forged rods and pistons were sourced from JWT. Auxiliary, Mallory oil pumps, circulate engine oil from the back of the cylinder heads down to the oil pan to prevent starvation in high G turns and are controlled from a switch on the center console. Plumbing is with -10 fittings and braided steel lines. The PCV system has been removed and the crank case is ventilated to atmosphere with two individual, ventilated catch cans, with drain valves that can be accessed externally. This removes the risk of detonation from unwanted oil vapors leaning out the fuel mixture. JWT 650 turbochargers are used with dual port waste gate actuators. Fuel is supplied by 740 CC injectors in a modified fuel rail and a JWT Dual Pop intake system. A Nismo adjustable fuel pressure regulator controls fuel pressure and a VDO pressure guage is mounted in the engine bay. Turbo waste gate actuators are preloaded to 15 PSI. Turbo plumbing is enlarged and radiused to improve flow. Intercoolers were custom made for the IMSA Dal-Tech Supercars. Cams were JWT prototypes at the time, but are now production types requiring the modified cam gears to eliminate gear noise. RWHP was dynoed at 542HP on 93 Octane fuel, at 18 lbs of boost pressure when new. Alternate program for C16 race fuel is operational but never measured on the dyno. To keep tabs on vital data, a full complement of numerated, cockpit gauges has been installed using primarily VDO units to match the factory look as close as possible. Gages include coolant temperature, oil pressure, oil temperature, intake air temperature, exhaust gas temperature and boost pressure in addition to the factory read outs.ENGINE MANAGEMENTThe ECU has been modified by Jim Wolf Technologies but the programs were customized for this car on the Dyno at Balanced Performance Motorsports. There is a Nitrous Spool Up Kit installed that provides a 100HP shot of nitrous, when off boost to fill in the power band below 4K RPMS. The program controls the NOS, in conjunction with the boost, and slowly reduces NOS as boost builds. There are 4 cockpit selectable programs, 1 each for 93 Octane and C16 Race fuel plus NOS options for both. There is also a Greddy Profec B Boost controller to regulate turbo boost.COOLINGStarting with a custom, triple pass, Ron Davis aluminum radiator, the system incorporates an electric, thermostatically controlled fan mounted to a custom shroud to maximize cooling. A manual override switch is installed in case the thermostat fails to engage the fan. The thermostat has been modified to improve flow in high stress conditions. Hard pipes are used in the upper and lower hoses. A custom Oil cooler is mounted flat, in the under tray, and has its own cooling fan and circulates oil from a modified oil filter housing to increase flow with -10 braided lines. The inner front fender liners are opened to allow Air flow over the intercoolers to exhaust into the wheel wells. The firewall to hood gasket is removed to improve air flow through the engine bay and the lower engine shrouds are also removed.EXHAUSTBeginning at the downpipe, a custom designed, one off, downpipe has a chamber in the flange to isolate the waste gate exhaust and route it down stream where it rejoins the stepped size primary exhaust. The result was a 25HP gain on the engine dyno. From the downpipes back, there is a custom, mandrel bent 3” exhaust built by David Lord. It uses an X Pipe design, high flow catalytic converters and Magnaflow mufflers with chromed 3” tips. The X pipe center section is flanged so the converters can be removed and straight pipes added. The straight pipes are included in the sale.DRIVETRAINTransmission and differential are stock units with Red Line synthetics.Has Typical "Z" car 4th gear crunch as you can beat the syncros, been this way for years. A short throw shifter with Carbon Fiber knob controls the transmission. The driveshaft is a one piece, custom aluminum unit, replacing the stock 2 piece steel one. The clutch assembly is also from Jim Wolf Technologies and uses an aluminum flywheel with replaceable steel contact surface. Car has typical "Z" car 4th gear syncro crunch.SUSPENSIONFully adjustable 4 wheel suspension allows for track and street setup /w 16 way adjustable Tein Flex coilover shocks and EDFC cockpit adjustment. Front control arms are adjustable for camber and tension rods for caster. Stock toe adjustment. Rear control arms are adjustable for camber. Stock toe adjustment. Suspension Techniques sway bars with custom, adjustable, monoball end links allow for accurate corner weight adjustment and zeroing the preload of the sway bars. All bushings replaced with urethane except rear sub frame which uses Delrin bushings to eliminate wheel hop. HICAS 4 wheel steering has been eliminated using the standard, NA power steering pump to reduce weight and sharpen steering response. Both front and rear strut tower braces stiffen chassis along with the roll bar.BRAKESThe front brakes are completely custom using 13” Coleman rotors mounted to aluminum Corvette hats that have been drilled with a Nissan bolt pattern. The front Calipers are recycled from duty in NASCAR. The AP Racing, 6 piston calipers, were once used by Rick Hendrick Motorsports on either LaBonte, Cravin or Gordon’s car. They were designed to be water cooled and use 1”thick pads. Porterfield R4S compound pads, .75” are used for the street. Additional Hawk track compounds in HT-9 are included for front and rear. The rear setup is also custom using 13” Coleman rotors fitted to the OE machined rotor now being used as a hat. This allows the retention of the OE hand brake. The stock 4 piston front calipers have been relocated to the back. Stainless Steel lines are used at all 4 corners. With the added volume of fluid in the larger calipers, the stock master cylinder could not keep up. In order to retain the stock pedal set, a larger master cylinder bore was sourced from a Nissan Titan pickup truck. To allow fitment, a custom billet aluminum spacer was fabricated to allow for the different bolt pattern. To achieve proper distribution, a manual bias valve is located near the master cylinder in the engine bay. AP600 brake fluid is used to withstand higher temperatures. Despite all the improvements, boiling brake fluid plagued the setup in repeated hot laps. A ducting setup was fabricated using NACA ducts front and rear, below the car, since frontal area was not available. The front NACA ducts are mounted in the custom sheet metal under tray that also houses the engine oil cooler and its fan. The rear ducts are secured to the chassis and positioned to catch air, but provide ground clearance.WHEELS AND TIRESThere are two sets of custom, three piece wheels by DP, 9.5” X 17”. Street wheels have white painted center sections to match the body color and bright polished aluminum outer barrels. Track wheels have silver finish center sections and satin polished outer barrels. Tire size is 275/40 R17 with Yokohama tires mounted on street wheels.SAFETYThe car is legal for SCCA SOLO 1. Local fabricator ZQuip, was asked to fabricate a SCCA legal, bolt in roll bar. 5 point harnesses have been added to both sides and are mounted with SCCA legal sandwich plates to reinforce the mounting points in the floor. BODYBody modifications to improve engine cooling and high speed stability were needed. Starting at the back, the stock spoiler was replaced with a Stillen, Type lll wing to improve rear down force. T. The rear bumper surround and the side rocker skirts were taken from the Stillen SMZ, 25th anniversary package. The front bumper cover, also from Stillen, was chosen to maximize air flow and front end down force. The carbon fiber hood was also chosen to maximize engine bay ventilation and has been further modified with the additional vents above the engine. Installation and body work were performed by the owner of Georgia Paint and Body, Brian Holtz. INTERIORThe factory seats and interior panelsThe seats were covered in perforated, Porsche hides in white. The windows, rear glass and T Tops have all been tinted and the T-Top covers are in great shape and in the cargo area.To better enable “heel toe” maneuvers, the gas pedal was bent slightly inboard and a pedal set was added with larger surface areas. The VDO gauges mentioned earlier were mounted using a center console, 3 gauge unit made by Stillen at the time with a carbon fiber face. The face is angled towards the driver slightly and holds the coolant and oil gauges. Additional gauge cups were added to the inside of the dash pods to position them in the driver’s field of vision. These include the EGT and boost gauges. By removing the Bose center speaker, room was made for a DIN gauge and switch panel. This was modified to house the Intake Air temp gauge, boost controller, NOS switches and fuel program switches. The NOS system offers a remote bottle opener, NOS gauge and purge button. The interior is finished in a gloss covered, carbon fiber kit that enhances the black and white scheme. AUDIOThe stock Bose head unit has been replaced with a Kenwood unit chosen to best match the factory Bose speakers. All of the factory speakers have been replaced with reconditioned units. A Kenwood, 10 disc changer is mounted in the rear cargo area. An aftermarket Alpine alarm system has been added with remote door locks.
