1969 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible Great "Hurst Olds" clone candidate Description

1969 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible that would make a fantastic Hurst Olds Convertible clone Opportunities like this don't come around very often. If you double click on the main picture you can scroll through all the pictures in a larger size using the arrows on the right and the left. This Oldsmobile has a vehicle identification number that starts with the three magic numbers 344 that proves this to be a true ordered from the factory 442 convertible. Those are also the same three numbers that start the vehicle identification number of the infamous 1969 Hurst Olds Convertible. Every true Olds guy knows thatthe 1969 Hurst Olds Convertibleis one of the most highly sought after Oldsmobile's of all time. From what I've heard over the years, there were only 3 or 4 convertible's made. I saw one sellingin California for $900,000 and supposedly a second one was somewhere in Iowa. According to the legend I heard the third one was totaled back in the 1970's. Now the fourth one that nobody thought existed was actually found in Waukegan, Illinois back in the late 90's. It was owned by an elderly lady that passed away and then her nephew obtained the car. The article was in an issue of the Gearhead magazine and said how thefourth1969 Hurst Olds convertiblewas verified, and how the nephew had a nut and bolt frame off restoration done in excess of $90,000 dollars. That car was then appraised at a value in excess of one million dollars. I believe all the Hurst Olds models were the only GM A-body models that came from the factory with a 455. Torecreatethis car properly the Big Block 455 is necessary to make this true 442 appear as one of the 3 or 4Hurst Olds convertible's made in 1969. My son and I recently purchased this super rare Oldsmobile out of Detroit, Michigan. The Motor City!! This real 442 has an upgraded 1971 442 Rocket 455 engine with the W and Z exhaust manifolds. The 455 was not an option in any Cutlass or 442 back in 1969, so a big block is a nice upgrade. To start with this genuine 442 has had only one repaint that I can detect. The original color is code 50 which I believe is the proper Cameo White paint code for a Hurst Olds. This engine does have the proper 396021 F casting numbers. The current odometer reading on this genuine 442 is 42,294 miles, but I have no way to verify the mileage as accurate. I believe the majority of the states have exempt stated for mileage on current day titlesissued for carsmore than10 years old. The title included with this sale is clean and clear of any liens issued from the State of Michigan, although there is a blank spot under the odometer reading. The hood on this 442 is the original steel framed style hoodused ona Hurst Olds. It is just minus the fiberglass boxed hood scoop that can be purchased at a wide variety of aftermarket suppliers for around $250. The whale tail spoiler needed for a Hurst Olds can be purchased for under $250. The entire Hurst Olds conversion kit that includes the boxed hood scoop, whale tail spoiler, and the necessary decals to properly recreate a 1969 Hurst Olds can be purchased for around $900 at various suppliers. All of the stainless steel chrome body side molding, and all four stainless steel wheel opening moldings used on the 442's and Hurst Olds models are on this convertible. The bumpers are only drivers quality, but a new pair of 69 442/Hurst Olds bumpers can be found for around $600 for the pair. I've never seen a rear cut-out bumper with the rubber strip on it like this one was ordered with, so an identical replacement would be hard to find. This 442 has dual exhaust with the nice chrome trumpet exhaust tips. The 442 grilles are in pretty good condition. I didn't see any evidence of this car ever being involved in any major accidents. This car is absolutely the highest optioned 442 I have ever seen. Those options include power steering, power front disc brakes, tilt wheel, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power convertible top, power drivers bucket seat, console, sport wheel, power antenna, power trunk, rally gauges, tic-toc-tac, and air conditioning. It even has the super rare speed warning option! The air conditioning seems to be all hooked up, but will be in need of some R-12 freon. It looks as if it were never converted to the newer 34A system. I have never seen any 442 ordered with as many options from the factory that this car has. There were new spark plugs and spark plug wires installed last week to prepare this 442 for sale. The suspension seems in pretty good condition with air shocks in the back. The convertible top and back glass window will need replacement, but the top can be put back up for shipment. The floor pans are all the originals and have never been replaced. The drivers floor could use a patch, but the rest of the floors and the frame all look good. The black carpeting looks to have been replaced, because it looks in really good condition, and there is a new set of fourblack carpetedfloor mats. The front bucket seats and the rear seats are originals and look in decent condition. The dash pad will need some repair or a new dash pad would be best. A very nice new replacement dash pad can be purchased for $99. An aftermarket Clarion AM/FM cassette player is currently in the dash, but the dash was never cut up, so if the new owner could find an original AM/FM it looks like it will fit in the proper spot. This dash was never cut up like was typically done back in the day to fit aftermarket CD players. This442 sits on a set of four National XT Renegade raised white lettered steel belted radial tires withgood tread mounted on 14" inch Super Stock III chrome wheels to resemble the original Hurst Olds wheels. All four wheels have all fourcenter caps, and chrome lug nuts. The original trunk flooris still in nice condition, and hasa jack, jack stand, bumper mount, and crow bar. Also included in the trunk is a 14" inch full size Super Stock III spare wheel with a tire that actually holds air. This way once this baby is back on the road, if you ever have a mishap, you can be back looking complete in a matter of minutes. The rear-end has the boxed control arms, rear sway bar, and the factory posi-traction for a '69 442. In my opinion this car is extremely worthy of making it into a sweet Hurst Olds Droptop. I don't want to sugar coat anything in this auction. This car will need a complete and full restoration where every part and every panel will need attention. This would be a great car for a high end restoration shop to buy and do a frame off restoration and take it to a live auction, since this real 442 has almost every option I can think of that could be ordered on a 1969 442. Included in the glove box is an original1969Oldsmobile owner's manual in the original plastic dealer envelope. These older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find.
