1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible
1970 Oldsmobile 442 Description
1970 Oldsmobile 442 convertible VIN#344670E130863. This is an original '70 442 Convertible with matching numbers. It has its original 455 motor in place along with a turbo 400 transmission and a 3.23 gear open rear end. The engine has been verified correct because the original VIN number of the car is stamped on the block. The heads are original 'E' heads. The car came with factory options such as: power windows, power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning (missing), console and bucket seats, power top, clock and AM radio. This car was purchased in Florida in 2003 from an owner who had it stored for many years and shipped to Texas where its been stored for another 13 years. The car was originally paint code 45 Aspen Green with dark green bucket seat interior and a white convertible top, but as you can see the car has been repainted white with black top. The car has a lot of rust and needs to be fully restored. The car was started many years ago and it seemed to be missing on one of the cylinders. The previous owner said it ran and moved but slowly, probably due to all of the sitting in garages and storage. I didn't want to try to drive it without going through everything and I just never had the time. There is rust in the hood, quarters front and rear, deck lid, trunk pan and floor pans. It is a great base to an incredible restoration project. I had started to work on the brakes and pulled the master cylinder and then never got back on the project.
Vehicle Condition
The car is in good restorable condition. The car needs a frame-off restoration. The trunk and trunk floor is rusty and there is also some rust around the body of the car on the fenders and quarters and hood and there is some rust where the dash meets the window. Bumpers are correct but bend and would need straightening and re-chroming. The car is mostly original with the exception of the car, air cleaner, valve covers, exhaust manifolds (has headers) and radio. The interior is in good used condition. The car does not have a battery. The top is shot and will need to be replaced. The top operated it when I purchased it and last checked it many years ago before storing it. The power windows worked when I checked them, a little slow but worked. All of the gauges seem to work. The a/c compressor and a/c air box on the outside of the firewall are missing. The tires are shot and when I tried to move it three of them were flat. I will try to find replacements but right now there are three flat tires and the 4th is very old and not in good condition, but holds air. This car will need to be picked up with a tow truck or trailer at buyer's expense.
