1949 Studebaker 1949 Pickup Truck with 390 Ford engine Description

This truck has been set up to be a modern city cruiser with many upgrades.

Originally from Arizona, this truck appears to have been 99% rust free with no repairs.

I am selling this car on behalf of a friend of mine. See my other listings for other Studebaker's from this private collection. My friend Bob's wife is not well at the moment and I was recently out in Hayward California to work on the car collection. So I am helping Bob with this truck. He's been into Studebaker's since the early 1960's. Final payment will be made to Bob Peterson. For more information by phone (listed below) as the truck is at his workshop in Hayward Ca.

Mechanically, it’s a different story. The original 6cyl motor and transmission have been replaced by a rebuilt Ford 390 cubic inch V8 with automatic transmission, power steering and GM 10 bolt rear end differential set up for highway driving. The front beam axle has been changed for a rack and pinion setup with disc brakes. So now this truck really shifts and moves well at highway speeds.

Paint is excellent with some light marks and scuffs. Glass is excellent and both windscreens have been replaced.

I see a lot of road cars listed for sale that don’t seem too reliable when I look at the pictures, but this one is properly prepared and ready to go. Sure, it could use some tidying up in places, but it looks the part and drives really well and with the 390 Ford motor sitting in it, the truck just flies off the mark.

The previous long term San Francisco owner of this car had 15 Studebaker's in his collection, all of which are similar to this car. All cars had nice options, retrimmed interiors, recognized Studebaker upgrades and had a ton of money piled into them mechanically. All cars were his road cars and were often parked outside his bar in Fisherman's Wharf. They are probably the most photographed Studebaker’s on the planet.
