1964 Austin Healey 3000 Description

This BJ-7 Sports Convertible finished in it's original and rare color scheme of black with red trim. The BJ-7 was the first convertible model produced with roll-up windows and an easy folding soft top. It featured the new wraparound windshield with neat quarterlight side windows, yet still retained the pretty early dashboard with instruments. It reverted to twin S.U. cards with 131 horsepower. This example presented here has just been the subject of a total restoration by it's previous owner, who has restored several other British cars. The is finished to a high standard, and runs and drives very well.Details of the restoration include a complete strip down to the bare chassis with all components being removed. The Chassis was completely sandblasted. Any repairs were then carried out and the chassis was painted and built back up with new parts into a rolling body shell. This entailed rebuilt front suspension, new front and rear road springs, rebuilt shock absorbers, new bushings, rebuilt braking system with new lines. The engine was completely rebuilt with machining and all new components including pistons, rings, bearings, seal, gaskets, timing chain, rebuilt cylinder head with new valves, new oil pump, water pump, engine mounts, high torque starter, spin on filter, etc. The gearbox was treated to the same with new bearings, syncs, gaskets, seals, etc. A brand new set of carburetors were purchased and installed with a new fuel pump and fuel tank. A free flow, great-sounding new exhaust system was fitted with new hangers. An auxiliary cooling fan has been added only as a precaution. The car was then sent out for quality bodywork and paint in original black, and finally a complete color sand, buff and polish to a glass-like finish. All of the chromework was replated, and a complete new rubber and seal kit was installed including a new windshield. A new wiring harness was fitted with all sundry electrical components including try-pod headlamps. The car was completely re-trimmed using Moss Motors items including front and rear seat kits with new foam, interior panel kit, carpet kit, trunk Armacord kit, Everflex soft top, top boot, weatherstripping, gaskets, seals, etc.A set of 5, new, 60-spoke stainless wire wheels were fitted with 165x15 radial tires and installed with new knockoffs. This car has accrued a mere 1500 miles since it's recent completion. It drives well with a throaty exhaust note and has proved to be a reliable running car.It is sold with a BMIHT certificate verifying it's original specifications and matching numbers drivetrain. It's restoration is documented with all receipts.
