1966 Other Makes Alpine Description

The Story...
In search of the next project, I happened upon this 1966 Sunbeam Alpine project in need of completion.
Of all the British Sports cars in the classic era - beyond the classic Aston Martin DB5 or Austin Healey that costs a huge amount - the Sunbeam has always been a favorite with its modern classic lines and timeless and simple sports car design. In fact, Sean Connery himself drove a Sunbeam Alpine in his first James Bond movie in 1962. So the Sunbeam is the ORIGINAL BOND CAR! I think that is very cool...
This particular car was one of those sad stories where the current owner put his blood sweat and tears into restoring his "baby" only to fall under health conditions that preventing him from taking it to the finish line. The car was a fantastic start, and we were up for the challenge of getting her back on the road.
The car is an original British Columbia car since new - and although there is a lot of rain here, in the Lower Mainland we don't get snow and therefore we never use salt on the roads. Along with the car came a box full of receipts and pictures that detailed the restoration and showed the car stripped down to the bare metal - where I could see that the car was a straight and rust free car when they started it. Rare for a classic car, especially a British Classic!
It has been a very cool car to build and everyone that sees it (especially the women) love it! It will be sad to see it go, but its time to let it go so someone can enjoy and I can move on to the next project!
The Details
When I purchased the car it was already painted and the engine was outside of the car with a fresh rebuild by a retired Rolls Royce mechanic - which also had the new flywheel and clutch ready to go. The owner also had already installed new chrome bumpers, door handles, mirrors, window seals, and a new dash pad.
The car is not painted in an original color. Instead the owner decided to go a different direction that I totally agree with. A more modern dark metallic green that looks amazing on this little British sports car!

The Extras
Not only was this car a great start with the straight body and being rust free, but it also includes a few nice extras...
  • Two sets of wheels and tires - Race Style Slotted and Original Steel with Caps and Trim Rings
  • A factory steel Hardtop
  • Original workshop manual
  • A box load of receipts and build pictures
  • Pair of 1966 British Columbia license plates
A note on the hardtop - it is currentlydisassembled (meaning the headliner, trim, and window are out of it), straight, and in black primer. Here is why I left it in such a way. The original Sunbeam came with a black top. Personally, this car would look amazing with a body color top to match the dark metallic green. However, I get a purist may purchase this car, so I decided to sell it as is and let the new owner decide which way to go with the paint on it.
Since it is a small hardtop and it is already straight, the investment to paint it - either black or green - is nominal.
All the extras are included with this sales. The hardtop can go on the car if shipped and the parts can easily fit in the car for it. The extra set of wheels and tires will need to go on a pallet. Car shippers don't take lots of extra parts that can't fit in the car.
The Sale
This auction is no reserve. Meaning bid to win it!
The car does not include a warranty and is sold where-is as-is. You should realize that you are buying a classic car, and as such they take special care and maintenance to keep performing safely and reliably. This is a fantastic start and a great little sports car, but I want to make sure the next owner is aware of this fact.
