1972 International Harvester Scout Description
345 engine, automatic transmission, 3.73 gear ratio, odometer shows 92K.
I’ve had this Scout for a while with the intention of restoring it and have decided to offer it for sale.
It hasn’t been on the road for a number of years. It can be easily driven around the lot, or onto a trailer/car hauler, but requires work to make road worthy.
- This Scout drives in all gears and transfer case positions.
- The brakes work, but they need a thorough servicing.
- The engine reliably starts and runs, but smokes quite a bit, especially from one cylinder bank, and I’m guessing it has a blown head gasket and needs a rebuild.
- The gas tank and fuel pump are new.
- 2” lift leaf springs have been installed. The stock springs are included in the sale.
- The frame is solid, the doors open and close nicely, the tinted glass is good, though there are some chips in the windshield. The body has some rust as the pictures show.
- This Scout came equipped with AC. The compressor is present, and included in the sale are 2 AC outlets and 2 fan/coils.
- Tires are 29 x 9.5 with excellent tread. Spare tire is mounted in the cargo area.
- Also available at additional cost (these are not included in this auction) is another 345 engine, 727 automatic transmission, and BW300 transfer case. Add to the cost of your bid $300 for the engine, $150 for transmission, and $150 for the transfer case, or $500 for everything. I can put the transfer case and transmission in the back of the Scout. Trucking or picking up the engine is at your expense.
This Scout is a great starting point for someone interested in doing a trail build, make it a daily driver, orperforming a full on restoration.
