YAZTEC AUTOMOTIVE IS PROUD TO OFFER THIS EXTREMELY RARE 1977 AUSTIN MINI "PIMLICO" WITH A 1275cc ENGINE FOR SALE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE CUSTOM FIBERGLASS BODY ( HOOD IS THE ORIGINAL STEEL) WAS INSTALLED OVER A STANDARD 1977 AUSTIN MINI CHASSIS AND DRIVETRAIN BY A COMPANY IN THE UK CALLED DOMINO. THIS COMPANY MANUFACTURED DIFFERENT STYLES SIMILAR TO THIS ONE, SOME WITHOUT DOORS, WITH HARDTOPS, AND GULLWINGS. WE ARE NOT SURE AS WHEN THIS CAR WAS IMPORTED TO USA. WE PURCHASED THIS CARABOUT TWO YEARS AGO WITH THE INTENTION OFPERFORMING A COMPLETE RESTORATION. AT THAT TIME, THE CAR RAN AND DROVE EXCELLENT, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT GREAT IN ALL GEARS, THE CLUTCH WAS VERY STRONG, THE BRAKES AND SUSPENSION FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. UNFORTUNATELY, OTHER PROJECTS GOTIN THE WAY AND THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR TWO YEARS. AT THIS POINT WE HAVE TOO MANY PROJECTS AND IT MOST GO. THIS IS AN EASY PROJECT THAT REQUIRES SOME COSMETICS AND MECHANICAL REPAIRS.
THE FIRST THING WE HAD TO DO WAS TO FOLLOW PROPER PROCEDURES TO START THE ENGINE. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REMOVED AND THE CYLINDERS WERE SPRAYED WITH WD40 AND LET SIT OVERNIGHT. NEW SPARK PLUGS INSTALLED. FRESH FUEL WAS ADDED AND BATTERY CHARGED.THE NEXT STEP WAS TO MAKE SURE THE OIL PUMP WAS FULL AS THE OIL WILL DRAIN OUT OF THE PUMPAS THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR A LONG TIMEAND NEEDED PRIMING. WE FOLLOWED THE PROPER RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE TO PRIME THE PUMP.THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. HOWEVER, IT WAS RUNNING ON TWO CYLINDERS. A COMPRESSION TEST WAS PERFORMED. HERE ARE THE RESULTS: CY#1: 165 psi, CY#2:175 psi, CY#3:175psi, CY#4: 175 psi WHICH ARE GREAT. SO NOW WE KNEW THE ENGINE WAS HEALTHY. WE NOTICED THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL SMITH BRAND AND WAS NOT REGISTERING PROPERLY. A NEW SENDING UNIT WAS INSTALLED BUT STILL LOW OIL PRESSURE WAS NOTICED. FINALLY, WE TOOK THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH OFF THE BLOCK ANDSTARTED THE ENGINE, THE OIL SQUIRTED WITH HIGH PRESSURE FROM THE HOLE INDICATING ADEQUATE OIL PRESSURE BUT A BAD AFTER MARKET OIL PRESSURE GAUGE. WE BELIEVE THE CARBURETORS NEED TO BE REBUILT TO DELIVER FUEL TO THE CYLINDER HEADS PROPERLY.THE CAR STILL HAS GOOD BRAKES. THE NEWER ALLUMINIM RADIATOR IS FULL OF FLUID WITH NO LEAKS. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A NEWER STAINLESS STEEL SPORT EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE12" MINILITE REPLICA WHEELS ARE IN NICE CONDITIONAND THE TIRES ARE OLD BUT SERVICEABLE.
THIS FIBERGLASS BODY IS GOOD FOR MOST PARTS BUT THERE ARE SOME CRACKING ON THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER AND SOME MINOR STRESS CRACKS. THE DOOR HINGE PINS ARE A LITTLE WORN CAUSING THE DOORS NOT TO CLOSE WITHOUT LIFTING. THE HOOD FITS WELL. HOWEVER, THE HOOD IS NOT BOLTED DOWN ( WE TOOK IT OFF FOR EASY ACCESS TO ENGINE) SO IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS NOT CLOSING PROPERLY IN THE PHOTOS. THIS CAR NEEDS BODY WORK AND PAINT. THE WOOD DASH IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION.THE REAR SEAT IS NICE. THE FRONT SEATS NEED TO BE RE-COVERED. THE ORIGINAL CARPETS ARE OLD BUT SERVICEABLE. THE ORIGINAL CONVERTIBLE TOP AND SNAPS ARE IN GOOD SERVICEABLE CONDITION BUT HAS SOME MINOR REPAIRS. THE REAR PLASTIC GLASS IS VERY CLEAR. THE SIDE CURTAINS ARE VERY NICE. THE FIBERGLASS FLOORS ARE SOLID AND WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE OR RIPS. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A NEWER FULL STAINLESS STEEL SPORT EXHAUST SYSTEM.
THIS RARE MINI NEEDS SOME COSMETICS RESTORATION AND SOME MINOR MECHANICAL REPAIRS.THE CAR LOOKS BETTER IN PICTURES.
