1960 Austin Healey 3000 Description

1960 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK1 BN-7 TWO-SEATER ROADSTER. COLORADO RED WITH BLACK TRIM. 4-SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE GEARBOX. 60-SPOKE CHROME WIRE WHEELS. VERY GOOD OLDER RESTORED CAR WITH SOME PAINT DAMAGE. NEEDS EASY COSMETIC RECOMMISSIONING.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very decent and original BN-7 Roadster. The two-seater 6-cylinder 3000 roadster combines the best Healey mechanicals with the prettiest of the body styles. Final production figures from 1959-1961 for this desirable model only amounted to 2825 units, with fewer left today, making the BN-7 the rarest and most usable of the two-seater variant.
This car was restored approximately 10 years ago but unfortunately suffered a wiring mishap. It appears the harness got hot and caught fire in the engine compartment causing some paint blistering on the hood, shroud, and fender and some minor damage to some interior items. It's all very repairable and it this point would require a repaint and at least a partial retrim.
The car's interior is very original with correct steering wheel, gauges, seats, top frame assembly, sidecurtain set, etc.
The body overall on the car is solid and very good, with nice straight panels and good gapping to all of the panels. A repaint should be a fairly simple, staightforward process. The brightwork is in good condition, the windshield is newer. The grille fit is very nice. There is the huge bonus of 4 chrome/stainless wire wheels in nearly new condition, at least a $1400 value when purchased new.
It is understood from the seller that the car was in very good mechanical condition before the incident. Currently the hydraulics on the car are down, but we are attempting soon to get the car's engine to run. We will update this ad accordingly.
The car's underchassis appears very solid and tidy with original sheetmetal in good order, with even some areas showing the original Colorado red factory color. Early on in the car's life it appears there was a front frame clip replacement performed to a very good standard, and well executed most likely by a professional frame shop. This is evidenced from some mainrail welding marks on the underside (picture). The rest of the car appears fine. The panels align well with good gapping. The mainrails are nice and straight (photo) and the wheels align well.
This car still retains it's original chassis VIN plate and body tag. It has a correct MK1 drivetrain fitted with the 29D prefixed engine, although it appears to be sequenced a little bit later than the rest of the car ( engine # 29D/RU/H10518 vs. HBN7-L/7632)
Overall, this attractive and rare BN-7 presents an opportunity to acquire one of these desirable and pretty Big Healeys. This car can be purchased and restored cosmetically, as it is a sound base needing only a partial restoration, with the bonus of many usable newer parts from the previous restoration.
