Overall, this is an exceptional find in a very rare Packard Twelve Coupe. The original production number of the "1238Twelve 2/4 Coupe" is extremely lowand it has been estimated that only 12 were built in 1939. This is #1238-2004. The engine number is B602245 and is an exact match to the Vehicle title VIN.
The owner was an avid member of the collector car community and used this car not only to showbut also took it on tours such as the Classic Car Club of America's "Wilderness Caravan" in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan (as a side note, he received the Distinguished Service Award from this organization). This one has been stored since the owners passing in 2008 and will require the proper attention to bring it back to the excellent driving quality that the owner experienced prior to it being parked. The family has decided to offer this Packard in 'as is" condition. When parked after his passing, there were no known mechanical defects or deficiencies. It was said that he always maintained his cars with a passion. Without any attemptsto start, run, or drive, it was put on a flatbed and trucked to us to sell for the estate. It has not been washed, cleaned, nor "detailed" since 2008. (Note: Yes, the engine does crank and has compression and yes, it is the original numbersmatched engine that was in the car when it was built.)
Based on original lubrication stickers on the A-pillar, the car spent most of its early life in Pasadena, California (where it was sold when new from Bush-Morgan Motor Company, The Pasadena Packard Dealer). It was purchased by the recent owner in the mid -1960's. Overall, it is considered to be a "very well preserved original". It has never been restored and even the paint appears to be original with signs of lacquerchecking, cracking and some refinishing based on age, however, no prior damage from accidents or rust was noted. It is believed that the mileage is original at 86,067. The interior is original overall, and apparently, the lower seat cushion had been recovered many years ago. As noted in the pictures, the undercarriage is exceptional. This is a very solid and original example that would certainly benefitfrom a full restoration... Or it may simply be enjoyed as the previous owner did for the last 50 years with its original patina and great pleasure as a road car.
You'll note numerous Packard enhancements and accessories. It has the dual side mounted spare tires with outside rearview mirrors, rumble seat,rear-mounted luggage rack, golf bag storage doors, front grillguard and bumper guards, rear bumper guards, Trippe driving lights, burl-walnut grained instrument panel,Cormorant Mascot, and the originalPackard Radio and Heater.
We welcome an inspection by a professional of your choicepriorto the end of the auction of course. Remember that it has been stored since 2008 and has not been started or driven and is being sold "as is".
