Here's a good example of a running and driving 1960 Edsel. This is one of the much rarer 2 Door Sedans. The Ford Motor Company produced just 2846 total Edsels in 1960. Most of these were 4 door cars.
This scarce 2 door Sedan is one of just around 700 made.
It's also a factory Black with Red Interior car, making it one of the most desirable color combinations among vintage car collectors.
If you're looking for an unusual driver or car to restore, then you'll want to take a good look at this one. Due to it's limited production and even more limited sales in 1960, it's very likely that no one at your local car show will have one.
This car is not a show car, and should be classified as a basic driver. An older repaint of the Black Velvet color has long faded and begun to show it's imperfections. There are rusty spots here and there on the car, and it's due for some body work and tlc.
Overall though the car looks ok at a distance and drives straight down the road. The interior has seen some use, but looks to be the original, save for the carpet which has been recently replaced with new. The dash is in good shape and still boasts the original radio and gauges. The automatic transmission shifts out nicely and the V8 moves the car down the road. The Edsel door tag is present and shown in the photos below.
Edsel as a marque has a bit of a sorted history, and although the car was named after Henry Ford's own son, the model was ultimately doomed to failure and by 1959, the writing was on the wall. Just 2,846 Edsels of all body styles were made in the last throes of production in 1959 making these cars scarce even when they were delivered in the fall of '59.
Arguably the most striking of the Edsel designs, these cars wore some of the styling queues of the space age with subdued fins on the rear and wraparound glass domes giving the driver a wide sweeping view.
This one has a very reasonable reserve and even though it's not viewed widely as a 'muscle' car, it still has an iconic look that is worth driving, collecting and enjoying. If you'd ever thought of owning a running and driving 1960 Edsel Ranger for a reasonably low price, then this one may be for you.
