1947 DeSoto S-11 Custom 3.9L
1947 DeSoto S-11 Custom Description
This vehicle was discovered in a garage where it has been for nearly 43 years. The engine turns freely. The wheels turn. It has most of it's parts and even some factory options like 5 button radio, forced air heater, and exterior visor. This car could be beautiful restored. Or, you can make it a rat rod or hot rod.
A little history about this car: It was purchased in Northern Illinois then the owner moved to Tennessee. It remained in Tennessee for the rest of it's life. It was not typically driven much. I do not know the exact mileage but, it has the original engine and transmission. It is Fluid Drive, an early type of automatic transmission. It is basically a hydraulic clutch on a manual transmission. The car was given to the original owner's grandson in the early 70's. He drove it through high school and later. In 1974, it was parked in a dirt floor garage in northern Tennessee. It was started every 2-3 years for until the 1990's. It has not been started for about the last 10 years. The engine still turns freely as do the wheels. There is considerable rust in the floor and lower rockers as condensation found it's way there for over 40 years. I have much of the old paperwork (title transfers, maintenance receipts, etc.).
I hate to let this go, but I do not have time to restore it right now. It is a solid platform for restoration. It has most of it's parts. Parts that are missing are lower rocker trim, hood ornament, and some interior knobs are damaged.
