1966 MG Mk II Midget

1966 MG Midget Description

Car was rescued from the California desert around a year ago. Has a clear current California non-op title in my name. I had plans to get the car on the road leaving the faded paint and doing some freshening u, but unfortunately I am moving and must let it go. The only visible rot is some holes in the floor. There is some slight perforation on the driver side A pillar. The is some damage to the left front fender and left rear wheel arch. I vacuumed several pounds of sand from the car and I know there is more lurking in crevices. I removed the gas tank and inspected it and there appears to be no sediment in the tank. The fuel pump diaphragm it intact and the pump does run when the ignition is switched on.

Structurally the car appears to be very sound. The only trim piece missing is on the left front fender. One of the headlamp strip rings is bent. There is a top frame which comes with the car. The jack and knock off hammer is in the car as well. The interior was rotted so I removed all items. The seat frames have some rot as well.

The brake master cylinder has been disassembled and new parts purchased for a rebuild. The bores look OK but it may need to be resleeved. I have not gone through any other parts of the braking system nor the clutch hydraulics. I have no idea the condition of the transmission. There are two new tires on the rear of the car.

I have not had it running, but it does spin over and seems to have good compression. I removed the head as I was planning to do a no-lead conversion. Upon removal I found a rotted fitting which can be seen in the photo of the cylinder head. I have a new fitting and have new valve guides as well. It appears there may have been a rebuild at some time. There is not a spec of sludge anywhere from what I have found in the engine. A head gasket set along with side covers come with the car. I do have some other bits that come with the car purchased from Moss and Victoria British. Among these are. The exhaust system is completely gone except for the exhaust manifold. I have carefully bagged and tagged all parts and hardware removed. The photo of the engine compartment was before I removed the head.

The car is a saver and a great candidate for a full restoration or refreshing. While I am not giving it away, I do expect a fair return for what I have put into it in repairs and parts.

The car rolls easily but obviously does not stop. I have not used the parking brake. While I will not make shipping arrangements, I will meet your shipper to load the car.

I also have the original pink slip for when the car was first sold in Palm Springs in 1966
