1971 MGB GT 2 owner car, OVERDRIVE, very original excellent driver
1971 MG MGB Description
Very nice 1971 MGB GT with desirable overdrive gearbox. This is a 2 owner car, currently owned by a professional MG mechanic having been purchased from it's original owner back in 2007. If you are looking for a fully sorted, ready to enjoy GT with overdrive that has not been molested by numerous owners this is the car for you. Everything works mechanically, very reliable and a great driving car that has proven itself time and again on multiple road trips, including the 2012 America's British Reliability Run Britishreliability.org
The car had suffered a minor fender bender about 30 years ago and the front of the bonnet was repaired, at which time the grille was replaced with a later 1973 type and the car received one repaint in it's original Blaze Red color (more orange than red). The paint is showing it's age, but still looks very presentable for it's age. The cosmetics of the car are very consistent in the patina, with the chrome looking good overall, but like the paint, not show quality.
The interior is very very good, with a newer replacement carpet, in the correct loop carpet, not pile! Seats are original and in excellent shape. There is one split in the seam on the drivers bottom cushion. The door panels have been replaced, but the other panels are original and very nice.
The dash is unblemished, miraculously with no cracks. The steering wheel is a replacement from a later 1974 model year. Has an aftermarket, Moss center console.
Gauges all work as they should, however the tachometer tends to get a bit jumpy/erratic at times.
Excellent oil pressure, maintains good engine temperature never running hot or overheating.
The rostyle rims have been refinished about 5 years ago and it has newer tires which won't need replacing anytime soon.
I just completed a very pleasurable 200 miles road trip in this car, it is a great driver with the overdrive! Vintage ANSA exhaust sounds sweet!
Now the bad news......It does suffer from the typical MGB rocker/lower sill rust problem. See photos.
Please ask any questions you might have before you bid. This is a great car for someone who is willing to do the body work, or can continue to be enjoyed as is for plenty of time to come.
Car is located in Maple Shade, NJ a southern NJ suburb of Philadelphia. LOW RESERVE has been set taking into account the rust issue, bid with confidence.
