1956 Triumph TR3 Description

1956 TRIUMPH TR3 SPORTS ROADSTER. RHD, 1 OF ONLY 1250 CARS PRODUCED FOR THE U.K. HOME MARKET. SMALL MOUTH, DRUM BRAKES. OLDE ENGLISH WHITE WITH RED TRIM. 4-SPEED, STANDARD WHEELS. FACTORY HARDTOP, LUGGAGE RACK. LOVELY DRIVER.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very rare and interesting TR3 Small-mouth. This is a genuine car in Right Hand Drive guise which is seldom ever seen here in the United States. This car was originally shipped here after some time spent in the U.K. and is still wearing it's English license plate. This presents a scarce opportunity to acquire one of the believed English home market cars, which are more interesting and valuable than the common LHD examples. The body on this car is very good overall. This car presents very nicely and wears an older repaint that is now showing it's age through some touch-up, minor cracking/chipping/flaking, and dings. The patina'd paintwork is actually quite attractive and interesting, showing a life of use and aging like that of an old china plate.
The body gaps are typical Triumph TR, that is, variable and acceptable for a car of the period. Some panels could use some minor adjustment.
The underchassis and underbody look decent. There has been a very minor chassis repair on the RH front extension. The inner rockers look solid and original. The outer rocker panels have been replaced along with the main floors at some point, and the work has been done to a good standard.
The interior trim is very nice and presents well with comfortable seats trimmed in correct red leather, red carpets and panel kit. The car's dashboard has nice gauges and fittings.
The car's factory hardtop is a big bonus and has an excellent, clear, rear backlight. It could use a new headliner. The hardtop has good fit to the car overall and needs some attachment hardware.
Mechanically the car is very good as your typical robust Triumph usually is. It drives strong and quiet with excellent oil pressure (50-70lbs), no smoke or noises, great gearbox, good brakes, nicely sprung suspension. The car will include the carburetor set rebuilt with new kits. The car is supplied with full weather gear which includes an excellent pair of correct, early, "wedge" type sidecurtains and a very good softtop, black with biscuit lining.
Overall, a rare and attractive TR in it's current condition. This car would be a far more interesting and intriguing alternative at a car show, over the restored glossy ones. It should be kept like this for the rest of it's life, being very usable and approachable as is.
