1968 MGB GT- Restored
1968 MG MGB Description
Today I am offering up my latest project that I've spent the last two years working on. This is a wonderful 1968 MGB GT that is completely rust free and ready fordutyas a daily driver or weekend cruiser. It has been road tested with several 200+ mile roadtrips without any issues. This car is ready for a cross country road trip if you desire or have it shipped to your door. My vision with this car was to build a strong, reliable, road trip worthy GT cruiser with some vintage "Patina" and mild custom touches. This car has been completely gone through from "stem tostern" by me personally withplentyof pictures of the process. This is the third British car I have completed and passed on here through Ebay. All my past buyers are very happy with the cars I've built. I don't restore cars, I "Recommission" them the way I think they should be. I rebuild all major components, paint them, and do the interior with some mild custom, yet vintage styling. I hope you appreciate mycraftsmanship and taste that I've placed in this vehicle. I welcome all questions and requests. My reserve is modest but higher that your average MGB GT, as I must recoup some of my investment on this fine MG. I have added detailed descriptions of all major components below.

Thanks for looking andplease bid with confidence!John Hull
ENGINE- Completely rebuilt using a later 18V block bored .030" over stock. Crankshaft is a later MGB forged steel crankshaft and is the strongest one built for these engines. This engine has been balanced for smoothness and longevity. The compression ratio is approximately 9:1 and runs fantastic on 92 octane pump gas. Camshaft is a mild street performance kit from British Parts Northwest and idles great. The engine oil system has 75 psi at idle with a later factory style "spin-on" oil filter set up for easy maintenance. The compression is even and right at 170 psi in all cylinders. Cylinder head is fresh with new guides and seats suitable for unleaded fuel. I've kept the original early HS4 S.U. carburetor set up as it is simple and works great. I've added a pair of K&N high flow air filters that have a clean look and are more compact than the factory set up. I'm running an early Lucas 25D distributor as it has the best timing advance and curve for these cars. It iscurrentlyrunning a points style ignition, which works great, but I have an electronic set up also that is not installed at this time.
DRIVE TRAIN- This car drives wonderfully for its age. The transmission is perfect andshiftsflawlessly. It has the robust and desired "four synchro" transmission with fresh seals and a new clutch. This car does not have overdrive, but I can add one at additional cost if desired by the purchaser. All universal joints are new. The rear axle has been gone through and given fresh bearings, thrust washers and seals. All brakes are recently renewed as well as the hydraulics. All wheel bearings are freshly packed and properly adjusted. This car sports factory original painted spoke wheels that are in good balance and the car tracks straight and true. Tires are in like new condition, but are a few years old.
INTERIOR-I can only describe this interior as "Cozy", it is refined and wraps around you and feels comforting. I have had roadsters, and they are fun for a while, but they are for people who can tolerate being cold and wet or blistered and sun beaten.I have completely removed the factory interior and installed Dynamat insulated sound deadener on the floors to reduce noise and heat transfer to the interior. I installed new carpet and fabricated custom door panels that are finished in high quality black vinyl. The headliner is custom in white vinyl with new foam padding. Thedashboard wasrecovered with brand new reproduction vinyl and foam from Moss Motors. All gaugesfunction as they should. Seats are factory MGB seat frames with new foam and custom upholstery. They are very comfortable and supportive for road trips.I have added brand new vintage style racingseat belts that are comfortable and safe. I installed an AM/FMBluetooth capablestereo with a USB input that will charge you phone as well as link to it. Also, the "Bluetooth" feature will automatically link with your smartphone when you enter the car and play your music. The speakers sound excellent and are tuckedtastefullyinto the rear panels. I have removed the rear seat pad as it really isn't functional, but it is included. The rear view mirror is an early MGA model and looks classier than the stock plastic piece.
ELECTRICAL- All turn signals, headlights, taillights and indicators function as they should. I have installed early vintage Lucas headlights that look neat and add a special touch. All gauges function fine. Battery is new and alternator is in excellent condition. Wipers function and heater blows quiet and warm on request. Sound system is excellent as described above.
BODY AND PAINT- The body istrulyrust free. The only areas that had any rust were the front and rear ends of the rocker panels. Almost all MGB's have rust in these area and quite often it is concealed for a while with body filler and paint. This car was completely opened up and all rust removed and repaired with high quality British Heritage repair panels from Moss Motors. There are no hiddensurprises in this car, all repairs were photographed throughout the process. This car is solid. I painted it with a Gunmetal Grey metallic paint which makes this car unique andeye catching. I used a two stage, base coat, clearcoat process that is standard for modern cars. The finish is excellent with no defects or blemishes. The entire paint job was color sanded and buffed to a smooth finish that is better than most new vehicles. The paintwork alone would be valued at more than my reserve price. Most all the chrome and trim are original MGB parts and have a great patina that I love. I don't create show cars, but tasteful drivers. All the chrome and trim could be restored at a reasonable cost by the new owner, if desired.
