1979 MG MGB Roadster - Crimson - Great British convertible!
1979 MG MGB Description
You are bidding on a 1979 MG MGB convertible (Mk3 series, 1.8L engine with Weber downdraft carburetor).Color is crimson / dark red, with autumn leaf vinyl seats and black carpet.I have owned this car since December 2002 and am (I believe) the third owner.Car currently has 71,823 miles.Car runs extremely well, and I have made a number of key upgrades and maintenance items during my ownership (listed in detail below).During my ownership the car has always been garaged in a temperature-controlled facility year-round and driven only during the summer.Comes with a black full tonneau cover (with middle zip to separate driver and passenger sections) and a black convertible cover / boot. Great summer driver!
All the maintenance and upgrade work was done by reputable MG specialists in the Minneapolis and Chicago areas.During the past 4 years, I have driven it very little (less than 100 miles each summer).I have done my best to outline both positives and negatives in detail.
Highlights:
- Excellent driver car, with well sorted steering and mechanicals.
- Replaced convertible top (2002)
- New Rostyle wheels and tires (2005 – less than 3,200 miles on tires)
- Replaced fuel tank (2007)
- Replaced clutch master and slave cylinders (2008)
- Rebuilt front shocks and front brake rotors (2003-04)
- Replaced water and fuel pumps (2006 and 2002, respectively)
- Replaced exhaust (2011)
- Onboard Schumacher battery charger / tender
- Manual choke works without issue.
- Great engine that runs very well—car was driven from Chicago to St. Louis, and I would not hesitate to make the drive again.
Negatives:
- Paint is an older re-spray:it is a good color and looks decent from 10 feet, but does have small areas of overspray and is crackling in a few places.
- Tear in the driver’s seat bolster.(I have had the tear stitched.)
- Tear in the driver’s door panel – not repaired (see picture).
- 1 corner of rear bumper shows signs of delamination.
- Crack in the Mountney steering wheel – occurred during installation.(Original black steering wheel is included with sale.)
- Turn signal does not always self-deactivate after turns.
- Original radio is no longer with the car; a modern JVC receiver with AUX input and Pioneer speakers is installed in its place.
Vehicle is located in St. Louis, MO.Buyer to pay transportation costs or pick up vehicle locally.(Seller can help to coordinate transport if needed.)No warranties express or implied are provided. All sales are final.Payment via cashiers check, bank transfer or cash (in person).
