1939 Other Makes American Bantam Speedster Description

Very rare 1939 American Bantam Speedster. Only 323 of these 4-seat convertibles left the Butler, PA plant during the short production run in 1939 and 1940. Of those, there are fewer than 20 still registered with the various Bantam clubs making them among the rarest of existing Bantams (or any other American production car of the era)!

a 45 cubic inch side valve 4-cylinder engine making about 20 horsepower, Bantams are the original American economy car. A true micro-car at nine feet long overall, 75 inch wheelbase, and weighing about 1200 pounds.

This car is very complete including the convertible top and side curtains with bows. It sports a rust-free older body and interior restoration. The engine was completely professionally rebuilt in the summer and fall of 2015 including valves, valve guides, keepers, and springs, rebuilt cam and lifters, honed cylinders, rebuilt starter, generator and carburetor, new battery, coil, condenser, and has only been driven on test runs since.

Research old movies and you'll see this was the inspiration for Donald Duck's car. You'll also find Buster Keaton, Our Gang, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse riding around in Bantams,

Take it to any car show and watch the people ignore the Ferraris, Porches, Packards, and everything else to admire this incredibly compelling little car.

An amazing piece of American automobile history at an affordable price!
