You've heard it a thousand times - One Owner, All Origina, Always Garage, One Of A a Kin, Dealer Service, Blah Blah Blah . Except the car really is all that and more.
1960 Pontiac Catalina Sport Coupe Bubble Top 389 4 bbl 4 speed automatic transmission power steering power brakes deluxe am radio deluxe decor group .This car has 63,334 documented miles on it. The last 15,000 miles took over 22 years to put on it It has truly always been garaged, over its entire life. My grandpa ordered this car new at Thoms Pontiac in St Louis . This car was his thir, and only new car he ever owned. He picked it up on Septembet 27 1960. Before he took delivery, he had the dealer undercoat every square inch of the chassis. It was said he slipped the undercoat guy a spare 5 bucks to lay it on thick. He also had Thoms Pontiac install custom made plastic seat covers on both front and back seats. They have been there since then until I removed them about a month ago Grandpa drove this car for 31 years until he passed in 1994. By this time it only had 47,000 miles on it. It was put in the garage for a number of years until my grandmother decided to get her license and drive it herself. She drove it until she no longer felt comfortable and once gain it was put back into the garage until she too passed. That was a synopsis of its history and I have many photos of it over the years . Here are the " Nuts and Bolts" First and most important, when my Grandpa passe, my Grandma had the car completely stripped to bare metal and repainted with the Correct Ermine White polyurethane color with clear coat . New rocker panels were installed at this time. This car had never been wrecked, but Grandma did go toe to toe with a grocery cart or two before the repaint. The paint is about 4 years old but it was in a garage and covered. It was only driven to excersize it, or to go to car shows. By the way it has won awards at almost every show it was taken to. The front and back bumpers are new, as.are the grille and mounting hardware. Even the badging is new . All other trim is either new, . polished or refurbished
It has new Radial whitewall Tiger Paws of the correct size It has an all new dual exhaust system with all welded joints and hangers New KYB gas shocks all around New battery along with all cables The starter and generator were inspected and bench tested and found to be in perfect working condition New voltage regulato, the wiring was inspected and looks new with absolutely none of the typical butchery. It has new upper and lower ball joints along with tie rod ends and idler arms New brakes, brake cylinders, master cylinder ( dual system, power brake booster, wheel bearings and seals The brake system was flushed and fresh silicone brake fluid installed All belts are new
All hoses are ne, including vacuum hoses, heater hoses and clamps The differential was pumped dry, a new shaft seal was installed and fresh gear oil installed
Points, Plugs, Distributor Cap, Condensor and Spark Plug wires are new as well All upper engine gaskets were replaced when I detailed the moto.
All filters and fluids are fresh to include the oil filter and oil, the transmission fluid and filter, power steering was flushed with new fluid. The cooling system was drained, flushed and filled with fresh antifreeze new thermosta, radiator cap The Carter AFB four barrel was rebuilt and new air filter I installed the numbers correct intake and carburetor that grandpa had on the shelf. I have no idea what he was thinking when he bought That . I have the original intake and 2 bbl carburetor that goes with the sale I put the " Spider " centers and stainless beauty rings on it to "ungrandpa" it a bit. I hav, and are include, the original pancake style
Brushed stainless hubcaps ad well as the super sporty spinner hubcaps he purchased from the dealer when he bought the car. They were in the same shelf collecting dust with the carb and inta The trunk was repainted but the original trunk mat was retaine, it has nice patina The original jack and such is all there. As you can tell by the photos, the engine compartment is completely restored to the highest degree. A great deal of time and effort was taken to accomplish this. The top of the motor was disassembled and anything that could be removed was removed to refinish and paint
The chassis is as clean as the rest of the car. The chassis was thoroughly pressure washed and repainted. There is no sign of dirt grease anywhere. The undercoating my Grandpa had applied some 55 years ago is still pliable. The interior is all original and looks perfect. When I took the plastic off the seats were there was no wear. That need to be professionally cleaned. Dust and dirt over the years had come up from the underside and slightly soiled the fabric and some fading has occurred. There is a tear in the rear bottom cushion. I sat in the back with a tool in my pocket and did it myself. The ONLY that is not with the original car is the spare tire cover! On top of al this, I have: The original order form Original shipping slip Original invoice Original Owners Manual Original title application Copy of the original title Original battery and tire warranty 2 original color dealer sales brochures Plus a stack service receipts and such things.
In short, it is original, near perfect and probably one of a kind. I doubt you will ever find s better example of Catalina Sport Coupe as this. This car had been carefully restored and anything that normally needs to be replaced has been replaced. It runs perfectly and drives like a dream. It attracts attention wherever goes. There is nothing to do but drive.
If you have any questions please ask. If you need more photo, I'd be happy to accommodate .

There is also one in the middle about the same. I would say they are insignificant and are difficult to see. ( I didn't ) I'm sorry for the oversight.:
