When GM built the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, it was almost as if they were unaware that both brands were on the chopping block. Pontiac even churned out these neat and nasty little Solstice coupes in 2009 and 2010, with this 2009 Pontiac Solstice being one of only 1266 ever built and one of only 416 non-GXP coupes. If you like fun, if you are a Pontiac fan, or if you just wanted a new one but missed your chance, this is a fantastic opportunity to get it all back again. The Solstice coupes had neat paint names tied to emotions, with the lovely Ruby Red on this car being appropriately called "Wicked." It was the second most popular color after "Mysterious" black, but even so, only 195 were built for US consumption, so you aren't likely to see another. It's neat to see that GM engineers were free to have a little fun, even with the end looming in sight, because the Solstice coupes are a great exercise in "what if" experimentation and the result is arguably even better than the roaster. The targa body gives the car a real edge, adds practicality, but doesn't diminish its lightweight, open-air roadster feel, making this an ideal toy for the road. And, obviously, with just 8362 miles on the clock, it's virtually new in every way, with sparkling paint, no signs it's ever seen rain, and the kind of expert care you only get from a genuine enthusiast owner. If you want one that's like new, here it is.The black leather interior is mostly standard Solstice, but GM designers nailed it and it really needs no updates for duty in the coupe. Supportive bucket seats, a shrink-wrapped cockpit for two, and all the creature comforts make this an awesome weekend car that's ready for almost anything. There are a few extremely minor signs of use but for the most part, this car is like new inside, including the seating surfaces and carpets. The fat steering wheel frames a handsome set of analog gauges that light up red when you turn the key and the secondary controls are easy to operate and designed to be simple. A/C, power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, and a decent AM/FM/CD/XM/iPod stereo are all included with the package, and this is one of only 902 Solstice coupes built with an automatic transmission. Open the rear hatch and there's a well-designed storage area that can handle some overnight bags and has many useful cubbies and nets for storing gear or the removable roof panel (a folding soft top is available at extra cost, call for details). The same 2.4 liter DOHC inline-4 that powered the roadster is in the coupe, and it's plenty for such a lightweight machine. With a great baritone bark and an eagerness to rev, it's a lot of fun to drive and delivers the kind of true sports car feel that designers envisioned. Of course, it's completely unmodified, so reliability is uncompromised, and it's been properly maintained from day one, including any recalls that were needed along the way (important when the company is no longer around). The 5-speed automatic transmission shifts cleanly and there's an all-independent suspension with disc brakes at the corner that makes this car live to carve through twisty roads. It also rides nicely enough to drive cross-country, even with those big polished aluminum wheels and 245/45/18 Goodyear Eagle radials.Loaded with documentation, including the original window sticker, manuals, and other papers, this Solstice coupe is a great opportunity to own something that may never come along again.
