1970 Pontiac Grand Prix - Model J
1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J Description
Classic 1970 Grand Prix Model J for sale. I just haven't found the time to do a proper restoration on this car as I originally planned. This is an original Colorado car delivered to Steve Johnson Pontiac here in Colorado Springs. I have the original window sticker, owners manual, factory build sheet and Protecto Plate for this vehicle. Current mileage is 109,719 miles. The car has the original 400 cubic inch 350 hp engine and turbohydramatic automatic transmission. The car has factory air conditioning although since I've owned it the compressor belt has been missing so I don't know if the AC is functioning. The car also has the 3.23 ratio performance axle. The original carburetor was not on the car and I replaced it with a late model Pontiac QuadraJet that was built and tuned for me by Cliff Ruggles. The car also has a rare dual snorkel air cleaner. The car has 15" Pontiac Rally wheels which are not original and I put new BF Goodrich Radial T/A's on the car a couple of years ago.
The car needs a complete restoration but runs and drives good in its current condition. There is some fluid seepage from the engine and transmission but nothing major that has prevented me from driving the car.
There is some minor rust in the rear quarters (typical location) and rust under the vinyl top where it meets the trunk deck lid. The passenger door appears to have been repaired with bondo. There is some body damage on the passenger rear quarter belt line just ahead of the rear wheel and a small dent on the drivers side rear quarter where it meets the rear bumper. Overall the car is in pretty good shape for a 46 year old car that is original. Fortunately with our dry Colorado climate rust isn't too damaging here. The car has been garaged and covered since I've owned it.
Interior condition - The front bucket seats need new foam and upholstery. The dash, center console, glove box are in good condition. Carpet is in good condition. The headliner has a small tear. The windshield is cracked and will need replaced. The factory pushbutton AM/FM radio is gone and was replaced by an aftermarket unit.
I'm asking $4,000 or best offer for this car. No requests for parts please. This would be the perfect candidate for a nice Grand Prix restoration. I have additional photos of the car available for serious inquiries. Prefer local sale only with cash or certified funds.
