1965 Pontiac GTO Description

Bidding on a real 1965 Pontiac G.T.O. This is a running and driving restoration candidate. Car was built in Pontiac Michigan and bears the "N" code on trim tag to verify the GTO option. Car was originally turquoise exterior with a turquoise interior. This GTO still retains its original motor which bears the YS code which denotes 335 hp. It appears to still have its original Harrison radiator. The rear axle is original to the car. It is a YF code safe-t-trac positraction with 323 gears. It is an original automatic car, however, the original trans was replaced long ago with a turbo 400 3 speed. car is equipped with power steering and manual brakes, as was equipped when new. The car will need complete restoration, the car was redone in the 1980s. It has been in storage since the mid 90s. The interior was redone in a black, with tuck and roll pattern. While the work appears nicely done, it is nonetheless, incorrect. The headliner is excellent, and the door panels are all present and intact. The dash is complete, however, the original radio is missing. It does not appear that the dash was cut to facilitate the aftermarket radio. The floor pans are solid, but show signs of previous partial replacement work. The trunk area is solid, with a light surface rust. The original drain plugs for the trunk are present and intact. The car has had quarter panel work. In my opinion, it will need full quarters to be right.the inner wheel houses appear solid, but I'm sure the outers will need replaced when the quarter panels are done. As with most 64-65 GTO's the body cross member and rear body mounts are rotted. Someone did metal replacement in these areas many years ago, it is still intact, but not correct. The car runs well with no signs of smoke, no engine noise etc. it shifts well and stops ok. It goes down the road surprisingly straight, and shows no signs of having been wrecked. Overall, it is a complete, factory base GTO, one of the few to still retain its original engine and rear end. It needs a complete restoration, but is a worthy candidate. They are hard to find these days. Feel free to ask questions, I will do my best to answer all. Thanks
