1980 Pontiac Trans Am Description
Vintage Motorcars is pleased to present this 1980 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Pace Car. This is a very clean car with all original sheet metal, and showing only minor paint work done over the last 36 years. The car still shows very well with only minor fading on the gray painted areas. This is what I call a nice "honest" car. Not chopped up, or slapped together during a shabby restoration. Basically still the way you would have found it in 1980 with some minor wear. Although this car was sold new in Wisconsin; it spent almost its entire life at the owner's winter home in Florida. This T/A was clearly not a daily driver at any time. The interior features the original red LED Pontiac radio / cassette which works just the way it should. All the red dash lights works perfectly as well. Only the Pace Cars got the red LED lighting to help set them apart from the standard T/A. The upholstrey is very clean and in great shape. All the handles, knobs and switches are in great shape. This awesome survivor is still sporting the original Pontiac 301 ci V-8 rated at 225hp, and the original 3:08 posi rear end. The engine runs smooth and just as strong as it did in the 80's. The original 3 speed automatic transmission shifts perfectly through the gears finishing off a very positive and enjoyable driving experience. The tires and brakes have recently been replaced, and make this classic ready to roll! Even the truck is shown with the original spare, mat and jack! This Pontiac comes with the window sticker, original build sheet and PHS documents.Everything on this classic is in working order, and with only 63,940 miles showing on the odometer; there are many more years of enjoyment on this baby!
The ultimate Trans Am Turbo was the 1980 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replica. There were originally supposed to be 6,300 of these (eventually cut to 5,700). The Pace Car replicas were essentially Trans Ams with the turbo engine and every available Firebird option, including a T-top roof, air conditioning, limited-slip differential, white-painted alloy wheels, a full load of convenience features, and the WS6 Performance Handling Package (which included four-wheel disc brakes and stiffer suspension components). Pace Car replicas were available only in Cameo White with gray accents and a unique hood decal even more dramatic than the normal Firebird’s.
If you are looking for an original, low mile, Turbo Pace Car T/A... this is the one!
Take a quick look at the '77 - '78 Trans Ams going across the national auction blocks. Most are pushing $30k or more. It won't be long before the '80 - '81 T/A's are at the same level, but it has to be the "right one". Well folks... this is the "right one".
