1970 Pontiac GTO
1970 Pontiac GTO Description
Hello and thank you for viewing my listing. Following is a brief history of this GTO. It was manufactured in Fremont, CA, in November 1969 (current location of Tesla Motor Co.) It was shipped in November 1969 to Haskell Pontiac in Culver City, Ca. It was dealer traded to University Pontiac, No. Hollywood, CA in October 1970 and subsequently sold to first owner, Ms. Hattie Miles. She drove and cared for the car for the next 16 years. She was an elderly lady, and this GTO may have been her last car. In 1986 it was then sold to Jim McGowan, then a writer for "Guide to Muscle Cars" magazine. He wrote a two part feature article about his "Revival" of the car in the November and December magazine issues, of which I have a copy of December's. His "Revival" included painting the car, replacing vinyl top, new headliner, dash pad and cleaning engine and engine bay. Within about a year, Mr. McGowan sold the car to George Mattar, a car guy with Hemmings Motor News in Pennsylvania. The car was sold to two other individuals before my purchase in 2005 when it was returned to California. I was excited to find this car after a long search of a high quality survivor GTO. I still find it amazing that this car was spared any abuse in its life. To my knowledge and testimony found in the car's condition, this GTO has truly had a pampered life. The car was not sold very soon after production; in my opinion, for the following reasons: The Viet Nam War, an economic recession, and just as importantly, the column shift was not too "Sporty". The later reason could have actually saved this car from a heavy footed first owner. Thanks to Hattie for buying the car and setting it on its path of an "easy life". The condition of the car is largely in the same or better condition it was in when Mr. McGowan finished his "Revival". I think it is an excellent representation of a "True Survivor" car. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I have Pontiac Historical documentation, Protect-O-Plate and multiple registration cards for different owners.
