I purchased this from a friend of my fathers. Fred had owned this car for 19 years and was the second owner with 168,000 miles. He always stored it in his garage and had rarely driven it in the last 12 years, starting it up every few months and moving it back and forth in his garage. He told me had taken it to Wisconsin a few years ago and everything had ran fine. He called me up a few weeks ago and asked if I would be interested in buying the car from him for my son as he was moving.
I trailered it home, did a full tune up, changed the batteryand got it running smooth. I loaded my boy up for the maiden voyage and about 15 miles down the road it started blowing out oil and making the gauges flash. I loaded it back on the trailer, got it home, and now it will not start or turn over. I believe there is a major issue, and I'm not anywhere close to being able to handle all that as far as time or skill.
Now the reason I was so excited for my son to drive this little 2.0 four cylinder was due to its condition and expected gas mileage and insurance cost. This car hasn't been out in the rain for 15 years and is in excellent condition for its age minus the engine issue. The interior is in perfect condition as well. He even has the original sunroof case in the trunk. The headlight open and close as they should.Thecar hassome sort of sound system and all windows and doors work like they should. I took it through the car wash on our first and only voyage and had no water coming in around the sunroof or doors. The body is in excellent condition as well with all trim pieces and NO surface rust. The underside of the car has minor surface rust but is otherwise in great condition. The American Racing wheels and Goodyear Nascar tires have less then 5 thousand miles on them. Fred thought they were 10 years or so old. I see no dry rot on the tires. All owners manuals are with the car with dates written down for all oil changes and such. Clear title as well as abrand new battery, plugs, cables, cap and rotor. Also have a new valve cover gasket and exhaust manifold gasket that I had ordered already.
Great for a collector or mechanic, try and find another one for sale.
I'm not sure my replies are going though as I send it then get a mailer demon back saying it cannot be delivered. So..
1-There are no rust issues under the hood. Photos have been added.
2-Yes I can help you load it on the trailer. I have teenagers always running around and their friends always seem to be here eating my food. No worries.
3-Yes I can help to deliver, but onlywithin 30 miles. One of the tires on my trailer is a bit sketchy so not further than that.
4-No, the wheels come with the car :)
5-I did find the replacement motor and the place got back to me last night via email for freight quote. pattersonaw had quoted an engine for $350 and another $200 for freight to Cedar Rapids IA. They would deliver commercial only or I could go pick it up. Jarrod 1-800-822-2028 ext 4
6-I had no issues with the transmission. We drove through town a bit, got gas and a car was with no issues. The issue with the motor occurred after getting it on the highway and pushing it past 70 mph, but transmission was feeling fine. I did not turn on the AC as I live in Iowa. The heater was working great though.
7-For a shipping quote my zip code is 52402, 2900 Wenig Rd NE is a close intersection.
8-When I try and start it now, the car either acts like it is dead when you turn the key (lights on the dash come on, everything has power until u turn the key), or the starter just makes a whirring noise without turning the engine over. The oil is coming from somewhere down below that I cannot see. Going down the road at 70, the car made a noise, grey smoke from the exhaust and then it died. Thankful that the highway wasn't to busy.
