1980 Pontiac Trans Am SE w/T-Tops
1980 Pontiac Trans Am Pace SE Description
Greetings, I just bought a new car, and must sell my beloved 1980 Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am. Was originally an Indy/Daytona Pace Edition Y85 SE(one of the rarer ones, 5,700 made). Has great potential for right buyer looking for a driveable classic to restore or just enjoy!!!
Car is unusually clean, obviously been garaged and not driven in snow or rain. Undercarriage and body is in great shape for it's age!
No problematic common rust or holes on undercarriage, subframe, or on rear rails. Very solid floor and trunk. The drain plugs are clean and nice.
The body Bushings are very clean and look great, door bushings are perfect, open and close well. Front end parts are all good and it drives nice. No vibrations or pulling. Low Mile chassis for sure. Clean wheel wells, quarter panels, doors(new window sweeps too)
Has T-Tops, cameo white exterior, has had one repaint -before I got it-, holding up well and shines still.
Original matching Vin # stickers are still on the door.
Is an X87 code/vin car, comes with the stock/original WS6 factory options (steering gears and hd sway, 4 wheel disc brakes stock, air-cooled 15X8 turbo rims, and Positrac rear -with original tag still on it.)
Has been enhanced mostly for straight line acceleration and extra horsepower and stability-has subframe connectors, and lakewood ladder bars- set up right. Very good traction!. Rides and drives great on street, strip, or highway. (No Problem with going over speed bumps at all either)
~The Louvers in photo are no longer on the rear window, and do not come with car/auction~
This Trans Am has an L-88 style 2 1/2 cowl fiberglass hood(in photos).
The original Turbo TA hood is long gone, don't ask please.
Has a recent, probuilt, balanced 74 SBC 350 with lopey cam, high torque starter, 3" duals and Thrush mufflers out to rear axle--sounds amazing.
TH350 trans w/ blue stall 2200 stall converter, shift kit, chrome pan, and B-M ratchet shifter. 4 core radiator.
The engine oil stays clean, and all fluids are good. Still has half tank premium in it too. Engine has no knocks or ticks and is turn-key.
You can drive it anywhere, it is mechanically sound enough-has never left me stranded once. My registration expired in December, and car has been in my garage all Winter, safely waiting for Spring to wash the salt away off the roads before driving again... I also bought new tail light to replace the cracked one in photo-and have installed.(same as original ones- in photo)
Again, car is not stock,---I do not have the 301 turbo sorry!----
This 1980 TA has aftermarket: MSD 6a ignition, MSD billet distributor, holley fuel pump(loud) and regulator, Weiand intake, two fans, cam, chrome oil and trans pans, Chrome alternator, aluminum water pump, trans cooler. Edelbrock carb, tube headers, 3" dual exhaust with crossover. Performance shocks, and-- great front end-drives straight and tight.
What needs Work:
The wiper motor needs to be re-installed and mounted proper, but works. And ..heater/defrost is aftermarket- needing vents to be hooked up, but I have a box of vent parts to come with the car... I also have new power lock actuators for each door come with car also. Original carpet still looks fine. Which is rare, never molded, etc..
Interior--dash has been repaired and showing it.
Also needs: a visor, the T-tops are nice and tight-but one t-top inner plastic trim needs replacement, the headliner starting to droop, steering wheel's under trim piece missing(20$ replace)... Glove box lock, trunk lock/key, also needs replacement but electric popper works in glovebox.
Body: Driver's fender is puckering on the lower by door( when open is the only visible rust forming spot, see photo) and will need attention eventually.
Has decent black/houndstooth seats, ok cd player, decent remote alarm with two remotes., a master- shut-off switch, and new $$ battery mounted in trunk.
Great car, needs nothing to drive, but far from being a "show" car. Just a relic from the days of old school. a dinosaur, and needing continued restoration and care. The "Diamond" plating will attest to that!
I have clean title in my name, in hand, I've been the owner past few years.
I will be happy to share more photos, answer any questions, talk on the phone, etc.
I can even help ship the car (loading onto a truck, meeting driver), reasonably, and even keep it in my garage for a few more weeks after payment until you are ready to have it delivered!.
I expect the deposit within 24 hours, I would like payment in full in ten days. Come see the car if you are interested! I reside conveniently in between cities of Milwaukee and Chicago. I welcome your bids--- but please do not bid if you cannot pay please!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks! Neil G.
