1984 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
1984 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird Description
You are bidding on an almost 100% original 1984 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am "Barn Find". All original paperwork, owners manual,Window sticker and other booklets are still with the car, as seen in the pictures. This under 43,700 mile car had one owner the last 32 years. Was last registered on the road 08/2001 and sat covered and untouched in a heated garage since that point. hisbeautiful example of a 3rd generationF-body is in need of a new home. The original owner of the vehicle sold it to a neighbor mechanic/shop owner. She wanted this shop owner to put it in the right persons hands. This mechanic and shop owner had a lot on his plate and allowed us to take it off his hands all within the same month he took possession of the vehicle.Since then we got the car broughtback to its former glory. Only replaced things due to age and age alone to keep it reliable. The car still had its factory set of tires left on it! While properly stored in the heated garage during off season she and her husband jacked the tires off the ground. Then they decided not to put it on the road for the last 16 years. This position compromised the shocks. So the fluid filled struts were replaced, but the springs were in awesome shape since it did not hold the full load of the car on it all 33 years of its life. This is a neat and uncommon vehicle. The original owner optioned the car in '83 for the upcoming'84 model yearbeing car number 00824 making it one of the first to roll off the assembly line. She ordered it how she wanted which was fairly bare bones crank windows, no tape deck, but with everything you want in a Trans Am. The 305 V8, onetier up from base radio, cruise control, tilt, T-Tops, A/C, Automatic, rear louvers, one tier up seats. These are actually fairly rare seats in the Trans Am. They really look great in the car too. What you are gettingmight be one of the bestcurrent examples of an 82-84 Firebird Trans Am non Aero package cars I have ever seen. No way to described the feeling of driving such a nice unmolested car with the power bulge on the hood looking at you through the windshield. Youjust know you are behind the wheel of something special. The interior hard plastics are so much better than later 3rd gen soft materials which always seemed to separate from heat and old glue. Not an issue whatsoever with this early example. We love these cars, great cruisers that are getting more and more attention. This car is a solid9 overall out of a 10 scale.Interior: 9.8 with very small if at all non issues. Amazing dash pad, not warped, no cracks, no issues. OEM speakers, Radio works, A/C and all functions, but does need a recharge. During the Summer months its an added bonus. The heater works well. OEM floor mats are still with the car, drivers floor mat is beat up but there after 30+ years! The back lower portion of the vinylseat back has one small cut though not all the way through the material, the other seat has two, almost unnoticeable. Otherwise front and back seats are great. Still perfect support foam, no dry rot.Body: 9.9/10, not a crease, dent, ding, bad rock chip, rust of any kind. Look how clean the underside of the car is. Trunk is so easy to shut once lowered it can be latched it one finger pressing down on the decklid. Doors don't sag and rub, body panels all line up right. The rubber is good all over still supple. The drivers side window where the weather stripping meets the rear sail panel, has some defects. Nothing missing buta few cuts in it. Does not void with its water tight seal, and does not require replacement.Paint: I am going to call it 8/10. On an original scale its a9/10. It was the last yearforthe short lived 81-84 factory enamel paint jobs. Going from that to base coat/clear coat paints starting the following year. I hate when people say good for its age, but that truly is the case here. Overall it is right on the verge of an 8for me. The paintwas taken care of, which leads me back to the enamel. Having no clear on top means that every time it waswaxed up it was drawing paint onto the rags. 33 years of this has made the red paint thin in areas. Paint is there, bright and shiny, in great shape, just getting thin. It is only original once and this OEM job does not need repainted. It has a few marks here and there. I had the bottom black portion scuffed and painted because of the rock chips from basic road debris and the hood and headlight covers repainted. This being an almost all original paint car still, it looks fantastic.Electrical:10/10Everything from the cruise control to the radio, headlight motors are fine. headlights to the tail light, blinkers and all work without the slightest of a glitch, side markers, running light switch, interior light toggle, and just door jam interior light all function 100%. Long story short all buttons, lights, switches, toggles markers work in the car.Glass: 7.5/10 rear window and door glass are perfect. Windshield has a number of superficial scratches throughout it. No gouges, cracks, splits, breaks, or de-lamination. The car was covered in the off season but it still somehow ended up this way. The scratches are only noticeable at certain angles. The passenger side T-top looks new, while the drivers side has scratches.Suspension:10/10does as it should like it should the way it should. Steering is tight, absorbers work well. Springs are OEM but have been saved well throughout the years based off its form of storage. Tires are new on balanced wheels with fresh alignment.Mechanical: 9.6/10 Fires up quick without the slightest puff of smoke. Does not become heat soaked. If you have to stop for gas, it starts back up even easier upon warm restart. Drives and shifts fine, new fluids. May need carb tweaked once it is driven a while if its not already dialed in, the carb was rebuilt. The car had a small leak around the transmission pan after the new fluid, gasket, and filter were added, but it seems to have gone away. Look how clean the engine bay is. The hood bulge solenoid and 4bbl both open and function properly. This car has been well taken care of and well preserved all of its life.Since we took it over we have fixed, worked on, or replaced the following (some done by the shop owner before letting it go to us). We wanted this to be a safe, fun, reliable, head turning, car show, weekend cruiser.

OEM ones concerned us due to age. And though it has the original unused spare in the trunk, it to is 33 years old. Better safe to enjoy the drive. New belts (had the originals), the factory 4bbl carburetor was removed, a rebuild kit was done with all new butterflies, new floats, jets... Shifts smooth, goes into all gearsas it should. This is a real honest original 1984 Trans Am, that would look nice in any collection. This was GM's most aerodynamic car in the lineup that could pull a .87g on the skid pad. This is a great car that is quickly becoming the very next collector automobile. It is more refined than the 2nd gen cars, its more noticed than the 4th gen cars. They have finally come into their own, and with the great handling, aggressive styling, better reliability, they will continue to rise in value. Welcome the newest collector sports car.
