1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, T Tops Low Miles Original

Up for sale is my 1986 Firebird Trans Am with 48k original miles. Overall, its one of the nicest low mileage, original examples you will find anywhere. This was a NY state car that spent time in Florida with its first owner before returning to NY state. It was then purchasedbythe second owner, a local woman and friend of the family. The car has been garage kept all its life and is very well maintained. Over the last several years it was only taken out on weekends and to local car shows where it won a few first place awards in its class. The car took Second Place in its class at the GM Show at the Garden State Plaza last week. There were over 200 cars at the show.

Exterior:

The bright red exterior paint is in outstanding overall condition for a 30 plus year old vehicle. The paint has a head turning, deep, wet gloss shine. The tires are in excellent condition with 85%+ tread left. The wheels are in very good condition. The original rear spoiler is one of the best originals I've seen with only very minor cracking. It does not need replacement. The decals and striping on the car are original and still remain in good condition. I have elected to keep the original decals for the sake of originality to add a little bit of patina. The t-tops are in excellent condition. The weather stripping is perfect with no cracks or issues. The black rear louvers were repainted and look awesome, they really give this bird character. The front windshield is original with no lamination issues whatsoever. A small chip in the windshield was professionally repaired. There is some slight fading on the side hood louvers; they can easily be removed and re-cleared.

Interior:

The pictures tell the story. The interior is remarkable with minimal wear. The dash is perfect with no cracks. The gray cloth seats are original and in remarkable condition, the headliner cloth was just replaced. The door panels are in excellent condition. There is a very small crack on the upper passenger door plastic. It is barely noticeable and not visible when the door is closed. The car comes with a set of brand new high quality GM replacement mats (passenger side is form fitted). With the exception of the passenger fog light, electrically everything works as it should - radio, all speakers, headlights, door locks, horn, blinkers, hazards, power windows, interior light, gauge lights, gauges, etc.

Engine and Transmission:

The T/A is powered by its the original 5.0 liter V8. ( I have #'s matching photo if interested). The smog components were removed for a cleaner muscle car look and the engine / accessories were treated to a classy chrome dress up kit. I have a box containing the original smog parts and valve covers. The engine bay compartment is in excellent condition. The oil and filter were just changed. The transmission is the original 4 speed 700R4 auto with overdrive. The transmission filter and fluid were just replaced.

Mechanics:

The car starts perfectly every time, idles nicely, and accelerates without hesitation. The engine is smooth and strong. The transmission shifts are precise in all gears including reverse. The car tracks straight, handles well, and is a pleasure to drive. The brakes are in good condition and provide ample stopping power. The air conditioning blows cold. The heater core was replaced by the previous owner. The exhaust is in excellent condition and retains its stock configuration with the exception of the chrome exhaust tips.

Chassis:

The undercarriage of the car is very clean with no signs of any rust issues. The suspension is all in good order and the car has a great stance. There are no leaks.

Reclothed Headliner

I have put a lot of time and effort into this car to get it 100% turn-key and show ready for the Spring. This Trans Am is fully detailed and ready to go. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It will show extremely well at any show or event. Its also great on gas – about 26 mpg on the highway. There aren’t too many low mile examples left like this one.
