1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455
1976 Pontiac Firebird T/A Description
1976 Trans Am
I am selling this car for a friend of mine. He has owned this car for several years and I am somewhat familiar with this Trans Am. While I am not a Pontiac guy I do restore buy and sell Mopars so I am going to do the best I can to give a good honest description. Again from reading all the documents that come with this car I believe the 47,500 miles to be original.
The body on this car is exceptional. From all the documentation that I have read that comes with this car it never has had any rust. That I verified when I put it on my lift. The floor and trunk pans look to be original and there are still traces of the red primer on the bottom that came with these cars when new. The quarters are also original as well as extensions. The underneath of this car appears to have never been restored. Even though the paint is several years old it still shows very well. When looking down sides of body it is flat and straight. There are some chips ( especially down low ) and maybe a few door dings but most of these things are not verynoticeable. Panel gaps and alignment are also very good on this Trans Am I don't believe the goldbird is original to the car and it is not a decal it has been painted on. You would probably not have known this if I hadn't mentioned it.
Even though this was an original 455 car the engine according to paperwork is from a 1971 gto It runs very smoothly and is quite powerful. I have rode in this car and it seems to stop, steer, and drive very well. There are no weird noises from any thing mechanical and this car does not wander all consistent with the stated miles. It has a 12 bolt rear end with what I believe to be 355 gears. Over the years of my friends ownership he drove it quite extensively with no major issues. I have noticed that when engine is hot it can be slow to start ( but it always does ) I have always thought it had a little to much timing.
The interior is also very nice. I believe it too may be original but I have no way to verify this. The dash and gauges are nice and crisp and all the gauges seem to work. The seats are not broken down and are still very comfortable to ride in. Years ago one of the owners removed the hvac system and the heat and air do not work. The original 8 track comes with car.
All in all this is a very solid T/A I have tried to be very honest in my description and have asked my friend many questions about this car. That being said it is 40 years old and it is not my car. It would be easy to have left something out. This car is being sold where is as is and no warranties have been written expressed or implied. I strongly recommend pre inspection and we will make this T/A easily acceptable to do so. While shipping is responsibility of purchaser we will help as possible. Any questions or offers? 636 219 7298 Thanks Bill
