I'm selling my 1979 Trans Am Special Edition "Bandit" 1 of 1107 4 speed I no longer have a convient place to keep the car, I'm restoring a house, we have an infant and my wife decided to start an entrepreneurial business venture leaving a full benefits job "the real reason". The car has to go!!! There has been over $35k invested in this car without paying me for any of my labor. So if you want one of these cars at a great price??? Inspections from independent appraiser are welcomed just contact me at 504-439-1435 and we'll set it up. Or if you have any questions. THIS IS A NO RESERVE SALE
This was a mid west car and is now located in New Orleans. It is a real SE Special Edition 4 speed car. 1 of 1107 made that year. The car had a full restoration about a hear and a half ago. This car has its original "Z" coded engine and heads with a 1st and fresh rebuild. It was bored 30 over with flat top pistons and a Thumper Comp cam. The transmission is not original and came out of a 1977 Trans Am. The date code on the transmission is 6-14-77. The transmission is a Super T 10 Bourg Warner with a fresh rebuild as well. The Carb is a 800cfm Rochester that has been rebuilt/refinished and the OEM factory carb for this engine set up and is matched to the factory intake manifold. These carbs are very rare and expensive. WS6 package with factory 8" wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes, and front and rear sway bars. The T tops on the car are off a 1978 Gold edition. They have a mirror gold tint, spectacular to look at and have the original covers. I have the original build sheet that I found while taking the gas tank down to replace sending unit. That's the original gas tank too! This car has all of it's original metal except for the driver door and fender. The door and fender were off a gold Trans Am. Original floor pans, trunk, quarters, rockers, bumpers ` Etc... It literally had now cancer rust. The car was stripped to metal and brought back to this amazing finish. It sounds amazing, Just had an alignment done. It looks fantastic and turns heads everywhere you go. A/C works, windows work but a little slow despite new rollers and motor and all other essentials work as well. Has the original 4 flue radiator. OEM T-top covers, Jack and attachments, Space saver spare tire, and inflator bottle The car has been freshly polished and detailed. It has a mirror finish.Tachometer, oil pressure, temperature, gas andalternator gages work perfectlyIt drives fantastic, handles great, and the tires hook up well. OldSchool radio withauxiliary input and powerantenna work great I've driven this on a few long drives with no issues. i have the Pontiac repair manuals for this car one is the 1977-1979 and the extendedversion for just the 1979, the largeeliminated wiring diagram and PHS (Pontiac Historical Society) documentation for this car and it all comes with the car. From 2500 rpms on this car screams and pins you back in the seat. The 4 speed shifts extremely well and is super fun to drive!!!
The bad.... Despite new rubber seals on windows the t-tops leak at the door glass, despite new latch assemblies and actuators the door locks don't work all the time. There are some minor flaws in the paint. Such as with almost every car of this style that has the original bumpers, the paint will start a hair line crack around the corners, and there are some very minor scratches from storage and people wiping dirt off the car but you really have to look for them. The speedometer does not work. It has a new cable and cable gear but I think the tail shaft has to come off and replace the shaft drive to make the speedometer work. It's showing 65k miles and is obviously not the right miles, but judging from the foot peddles and it being the first bore on the engine it's probably not that far off. The car came factory with the chrome door molding and has three or four holes down the side for the molding that you can barely see. I have the molding but think the car looks much better without. The A/C compressor needs a rear mounting bracket. The underbody was not stripped and has been recoated, but there was no rust on undercarriage.
The car has been restored and from a 1-10 and being a particular car guy.. I'd give it a 8.5. It is a show car that you can have fun with!! You may not ever have another chance to buy one at this price!!!
I have some pictures of the restoration upon request.
