PROTO TYPE #5
HARD TOP WITH LEATHER
DO YOUR HOME WORK GUYS THIS IS PILOT 5
This very special 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 20th Anniversary coupe is one of just five pilot cars built at the Van Nuys, California, assembly plant and is the only pre-production version optioned with leather trim. Of the total production run, a mere 24 out of 1,555 cars were optioned with a hardtop and leather trim. This car is made even more special by the fact that it was assigned to and driven by Pontiac plant manager Pat Glover. Pontiac celebrated the Trans Am's two decades of muscle-car supremacy with one of the most formidable packages ever to wear the T/A badge, one of which would serve as the Official Pace Car of the 1989 Indianapolis 500. The 20th Anniversary Trans Am was powered by the same turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 engine that had been previously employed by the red-hot Buick Grand National and GNX. The turbo V-6 engine was central to the 20th anniversary T/A's old-school muscle-car performance, generating 250 HP and a whopping 340 lb-ft of torque, plenty enough to propel the car to 60 MPH in just 5 seconds and rocket it through the quarter-mile in just more than 14 seconds, with documented trap speeds of more than 100 MPH. Devoid of splashy stripes or graphics, this 20th anniversary Trans Am is cleanly finished in white with unique "20th Anniversary" cloisonne emblems and "Turbo Trans Am" badges and matching gold diamond-spoke wheels. In addition to its T/A-specific aero body trim and dual split exhaust outlets, this pilot car also features unique experimental brake-cooling ducts that were not offered on production vehicles. The interior of the car features a camel leather interior with a black dashboard and center console as well as a cassette stereo with steering wheel-mounted controls. All cars in the anniversary production line were fitted with a 4-speed automatic transmission and 3.27:1 rear end, performance suspension, power steering, power 4-wheel disc brakes and front and rear anti-roll bars. Showing a mere 30,300 miles and incorporating power windows, power seats, power door locks and remote mirrors, this is a well-optioned example. The car’s provenance is documented by PHS automotive services on PHS letterhead, verifying the special history of this 20th anniversary Trans Am Pilot Car, which would elevate any collection.
Before people start asking these 5 pilot cars did not come with door decals that's why they are not there.
This car is all original the only thing that I know that has been touched is fuel pum, injector, tires which I found a brand new old stock set of gator backs just like what was on the, I had the spoiler and the front bumper painted . Spoiler was cracked a little and the pumper had a few rock chips . I also had a new headliner put in . All the work was done very professionally .
This car is very nice and clean .
The air needs charged and the radio is locked needs to be reset.
