1967 Pontiac GTO Base Description
On 4/16/67 Tom Whiting Jr., a Vietnam vet, used theentirety of his G.I. Bill to take delivery of his special order 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, finished in Gulf Turquoise, with turquoise interior, Power steering, Power Top, Console, Hurst Dual Gate Shifter, Rally II Wheels, floor mats, ect. a pretty highly optioned GTO.
Tom stored the car in his garage from April of 67 toApril of 17, for 50 years exactly,Tom kept his car up, driving it sparingly over the span of 50 years, garnering less than 100,000 miles on the car. Tom never got into a car accident, never drove his car in the rain, snow, ect. The car sat under a cover theentirity of it's life.
Unfortunately, Tom passed away in April of 2017 and the kids and grandkidscouldn't decide who would get grandpa and Dads prized GTO, so for sale it went.
The car is about as original as you can get. In jest, I put that it has numbers matching air in the tires. However, the car issurprisingly original, with original paint, interior, and convertible top. I will go through each section of the car to give you a very accurateaccount of the current condition.
Exterior: The car wears it's original paint, which is arrow straight, devoid of any major dents or dings, lacquer cracking, ect. There is a small amount of paint that has flaked from the pot metal hood insert and the Apillar posts. This car by no means needs to be painted, some light paint restoration on those parts should make this car the nicest original paint survivor inexistence. The original bumpers look new, with no pitting, hazing, dents, or discoloration. The convertible top works great and the car still wears it's original top, which is still veryserviceable. As far as rust goes, this car never had any rust repair of any kind, and is as rust free as any car could be for being 50 years old, from any part of the county.
Interior: This is about the nicest 51year old interior you could come across. The only defect of any kind I can mention is a split in the drivers side seat bolster, which can be easily repaired, or replaced with a reproduction for a veryminimal expense. The car has the original carpet and floor mats in it, and is very nice. The wood and interior chrome is all pristine. All lights, signals, gauges, work as they should.
Undercarriage, rust free, completely unrestored with most of the original inspection markings on the suspensioncomponents.
Driveline. This is a ALL numbers matching car. Alternator, starter, radiator, heads, carb, and intake are all date codedcorrect and born with the car. The engine was resealed some time ago and just generally checked out,i.e., oil pump, rings, bearings, timing chain and gearsetc, recently. The TH-400 shifts great and kicks down just fine. The car does not squeak, rattle, shimmy, ect. The car runs anddrives like a NEW GTO.
The car comes with the original selling invoice, Protectoplate, service records, pictures of the car new, ect.
This car is a true survivor in EVERY sense of the word and is COMPLETELY sorted out. Meaning, you can get in it, turn the key, and drive it anywhere. The car does NOT run hot. The car runs and drives great as is one of the finestundetailed, unrestored examples of a 67 GTO Convertible in the finest color combinationavailable.
I am a veteran Pontiac Judge and collector, with a wealth of knowledge on GTO's and thisparticular car.
