C4S Excellent Turbo Body Low Mile LOTS OF EXTRA EQUIPMENT
2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Description
Porsche 2004 C4S Excellent Turbo Body Low Mile Coupe VIN WPOAA299X4S621576
The seller is a longtime Porsche enthusiast and Porsche club member since the early 70's, who purchased the car from a fellow Porsche enthusiast.
The C4S shared many of its exterior features with the Turbo, including the front bumper with larger air vents, flared rear quarters, and rear bumper with side vents. A new OEM windshield was installed by the previous owner, and the rest of the glass remains in good condition.
The lights are in good condition with no damage apparent on the red reflector band, rear light lenses, or the Litronic Xenon headlights. Exterior rubber is well-preserved with rear bumperettes and window seals showing no fading or cracking. The self-rising rear spoiler is operating correctly.
An FVD Brombacher Level 2 power and exhaust kit was installed by RAC Performance at a cost of $4300. The exhaust sounds great under acceleration but is no issue during moderate driving and the car is now said to make about 20 horsepower more than stock.
2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe
This 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe has 57k miles and is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. This example is optioned with Atlas Grey Metallic paint, black full leather interior, Xenon headlights, and heated seats. The seller has addressed a number of outstanding maintenance items during his ownership and has detailed the car extensively. It has never been in an accident, and the cosmetics are in nice shape. The Carrera 4S shares the widebody chassis of the contemporary 911 Turbo, providing a similar look in a more accessible package. The car is sold with a clean Carfax and a clear California title.
The exterior is clean, with Atlas Grey Metallic paint in good condition and no accident history. There are a couple of small rock chips on the front, but the paint is all original and presents well. There is one rock chip in the windshield that has been epoxy treated and has not spread. The car has cleaned extensively, going as far as removing the front and rear bumpers to clean inside them. The mufflers, fender wells, and radiators have also been detailed.
There are several minor exterior modifications including a red "S" emblem in place of the original grey and a set of smoked side marker lenses, though the originals are included in the sale. Turbo Twist wheels are installed in place of the Sport Techno wheels the car was originally equipped with. Tires are not new but still have good tread.
The interior is in good condition and includes the following desirable factory interior options:
• AH -- Black Full Leather
• 342 -- Heated Front Seats
• XSG -- Porsche Crest in Headrest
• 680 -- Bose High-End Sound Package
• 982 -- Supple Leather Front and Rear
• M6A -- Black Mats -- Porsche Lettering
The leather surfaces have just been given a thorough cleaning and treated them with Leather conditioner. The cabin air filter was recently replaced and all electrical accessories are in working order.
An aftermarket Kenwood CD player with iPhone integration is installed along with a JL Audio amplifier. The original stereo is included in the sale. See photos.
The 3.6L flat-six is in perfect running condition with the following major service completed in the last two months:
• Oil and filter change
• New OEM Porsche water pump and coolant change
• Balanced wheels
• Replaced gas struts for hood
• New gas cap
• New Interstate battery
• Brake fluid replaced with Ate Type 200
• Replaced all 6 spark plugs
The clean Carfax can be seen in the photo gallery below. This 996 Carrera 4S is a very clean and well cared for example and well above average.
Comments from the press:
The latest Excellence Magazine Porsche Buyers Guide called the 996 C4S "Best Daily Driver". Valued at $30K to $45K the 911 Carrera C4S may not have the Turbo engine, but its Turbo derived suspension, brakes, and bodywork work astoundingly well with the regular 320 HP 3.6 liter flat six. It's one of the best balanced, most rewarding 996-based 911's you can drive, combining superb handling, all-wheel-drive traction, and aggressive styling while retaining the everyday usability and comfort 911s are known for.
Porsche's figures indicate the C4S was four seconds faster around the Nurburgring than the lighter, narrower, rear-wheel-drive Carrera. Somehow, the heavier all-wheel-drive system defies expectations and doesn't dilute the car's handling. And with the Turbo chassis that's "over-engineered" for 320 HP, we said in 2002 "the C4S may be the safest Porsche you can buy."
This 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is an automotive yardstick. Its 320 horsepower flat-6 engine delivers power to all 4 wheels via its 6-speed manual transmission, resulting in a 0-60 mile per hour time of 4.5 seconds and a quarter mile time in the 12-second range. It can easily blow the doors off nearly anything coming off the production line today.
This is a Porsche 911. It has a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated engine. It also has all-wheel-drive and a 6-speed manual transmission. It's has all the look of a Turbo, without the complexity of forced induction. It's also immaculate with low miles, and thanks to sweet, sweet depreciation, it's available for the price of a fully loaded Ford Focus ST.
Road & Track wrote on release of the car:
Porsche calls its latest 911 variant the Carrera 4S, but I'll let you in on a little secret: This sporty coupe is essentially a Turbo that's powered by the latest version of Zuffenhausen's normally aspirated flat-6 rather than the 415-bhp twin-turbo. So although the 4S does only 174 mph, it costs about $39,000 less than Porsche's legendary flagship. That's good news for Porsche buyers who like the Turbo's distinctive looks, handling, braking and all-wheel-drive surefootedness, but feel they don't need a 190-mph supercar costing upward of $115,000.
Rather than think of the 4S as a glass that's half empty, think of this as a glass that's half full. Myriad Turbo trappings include bodywork that's set off by an aggressively styled front end with massive air intakes; a 2.5-in.-wider rear end that encloses 11-in.-wide wheels; MacPherson-strut front/multilink rear suspension (retuned for the lighter, more nimble 4S, but still sporting the Turbo's longer rear axle control arm); and, of course, brakes with massive 13-in. cross-drilled and vented rotors and with 4-piston calipers -- finished in red to distinguish them from normal Carrera brakes.
Already stocked with standard Carrera features, the 4S inherits other Turbo niceties including all-wheel drive, Porsche Stability Management, Turbo-style 18 x 8-in. front/18 x 11-in. rear wheels, metallic paint, a premium audio system, electrically adjustable seats with memory function and leather upholstery and trim.
