Please note that if you have fewer than 10 feedback or any negatives that you need to contact me prior to placing a bid. We have had a recent rash of high bidders who have had no intention of completing the transaction. Just click on contact me and send me a mail, let me know you're real and do intend to complete should you win. This is the reason this car is being relisted after it supposedly sold last week.

Offered for your consideration is this terrific 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 2 Coupe. We had this car come into the shop early last spring for a pre-purchase inspection. It had been sitting outside while in the care of its long-term prior owner and had suffered from the experience. When the potential buyer backed out, we made a fair offer for the car in its condition at that time and purchased it for the purposes of bringing it back to the condition you see here.

The car wears an attractive RS-style front bumper, rear spoiler hoop and a set of 18" BBS alloys quite well, it is an attractive car that we had the opportunity to put back to stock but found too appealing in its uniqueness to change back.

Apart from environmental contamination to the finish, the car had its share of engine oil leaks, a dead air conditioning system and plenty else that was far from being right. We spent plenty of time on the car sorting out mechanical and electrical issues to make it leak free, blow cold air, run the way it should et.c. and then moved it over to our paint and body shop. As much as we tried to save the original finish, it was just too far gone in most areas and thus we stripped it down to metal and resprayed it with bumpers and trim off.

As far as mechanical work was concerned, the car received a set of new Bilstein Sport struts up front to complement a newer set of matching rear shocks in the rear. New BF Goodrich rubber replaced some bald Pirellis on all four corners and the BBS wheels were refinished with new Porsche crest center caps. Brake pads all around and new front rotors were needed, the rears had apparently just been changed. Calipers were checked thoroughly, cleaned and the entire brake system bled. The valve cover gaskets and a host of other engine leaks nearly required removal of the engine but this was avoidable. The entire intake system was removed to solve a host of vacuum leaks. While we were in there, all spark plugs, wires, caps and rotors were changed to effect a complete ignition tune-up. Engine oil and filter, transmission oil were clearly drained and refilled. The air conditioning system had two small leaks at sensors but also had electrical issues due to connectors behind the dash and in the front trunk, all of these were solved and the system was evacuated and recharged. Two months and more on, it is still ice cold and working flawlessly. Still more small detail work was done throughout "while we were in there", so to speak!

Cosmetically, the entire car was stripped down, in addition, the hard-to-do fender welting between fenders and body as well as that around the front bumper was replaced as was the sunroof seal all due to weathering. The weatherstripping on this car is terrific now. The paintwork took well over a month to "dial in" and the results are phenomenal. As stated before, we tried to save what was there, but the prior owner enjoyed driving the car far more than keeping it up and it was left to us to turn this car back around.

While purists will balk at the BBSs on this car, they are very good looking; I was initially in favor of losing them in favor of some stock rims but I think they really set the car off nicely, particularly with the RS replica bumper and other kit.

This is not a Porsche accessory front bumper but we suspect it's German aftermarket. When we had it off we were surprised at how high-quality it is.

Bi-Xenon headlamps are in good condition inside and out, fogs are nice and clear as well. No front plate setup on this car anymore though if you need one we can work it out for you prior to delivery.

Let's take a look inside. New speakers in both doors, by the way...

Nice crack-free dash and gorgeous full 8-way power seats on both sides as denoted in the option codes. We just replaced every stitch of carpet as well with the correct stuff and effected some very careful dye touch-up to higher-wear areas to clean it up back to near-new condition.

Trip-odometer was not working properly nor was the oil pressure gauge so they were both sent out and fully rebuilt.

The driver's seat is lovely with almost no evident wear.

And the new carpet is gorgeous!

Original CDR-210 stereo sounds good!

Just as good looking on this side.

Passenger's seat appears to hardly have been sat in!

Rear compartment is clearly unused!

Headlining is original and untouched. Dome light switched off so not to glare in photos.

Passenger's side door panel just as nice, note that we of course redid the carpet on this side as well.

Sunroof seals well with new seal, old one was dry-rotted!

Original books and radio card in the original leather pouch!

Original new car stamp and option code sticker denoting original colors and options.

The main option code sticker under the front trunk lid, denoting US car, engine sound package, limited slip differential, Active Brake Differential, Pirelli tires on 18" Technology Design wheels, 8-way Power Driver & Passenger Seats, color Porsche crest on hubcaps, cruise control, power sunroof and the Becker CDR-210 CD stereo. L3AZ is Ocean Blue Metallic, TT is gray!

Original VIN sticker in door jamb.

Front trunk compartment is nice and clean, we forgot to shoot the spare tire compartment with tool roll et.c., it's all there, will add a photo shortly.

Wheels and tires, going from left-front counter-clockwise....

All brand-new rubber, the wheels nice and straight and freshly-refinished, note fresh new rotors and clean calipers throughout. The original 18" Technology Design rims noted on the build stickers were very soft and they were likely damaged early in the car's life so were replaced with these BBSes in the same size.

The little extra spoiler tail on the pop-up spoiler in the engine lid is a very nice touch.

The lift-up spoiler works well, many do not!

The engine bay is clean and we have done a litany of work in here over many months to restore this car to reliable service. We have succeeded in that!

Those sad puppy dog eyes say "Please adopt me and take me home!" We recommend it! Fly in and drive home or let us ship it to you. We can extend you our commercial rate for enclosed coast-to-coast or shorter trips throughout the continental USA that will be considerably less expensive than you can get just calling in to one of the big boys.

By the way, see our other listings this week, we have some great cars!

payment/shippingThis car is being sold by a licensed and bonded dealer of fine used automobiles located in Savannah, Georgia. Please understand that this is an unusual 19 year old sports car hand-built by men and not gods - and is thus sold as-is, where-is with no implied or stated warranty or guarantee; please be realistic about your expectations (i.e., if you expect it to be a new Porsche, buy one of those instead - but it must be said that we prefer the air cooled cars to the larger and heavier Porsches of today). As stated above in the listing, we have made a significant effort over the last nearly half-year to correct issues that we found with the car - and with said effort now believe it to be in extremely good health based on many years of experience with other sports, classic and unusual cars of all types over many years.

Full payment is due within seven days of auction close unless discussed with us in advance of your bid. Your winning bid is a contract to buy, not just to look or for first right of refusal; the only reason your contract would be null and void is if it was found that we willfully and with malice aforethought misrepresented the car in the above description. If you feel you need to inspect the car prior to purchase, please arrange and have this inspection done prior to placing a successful bid, we welcome your visit.
We welcome all trade offers and inquiries up or down, but please ask us about this prior to placing a bid!

Accepted forms of payment include a cleared certified cheque or wire transfer in the dealership's bank account, or cash in person on pickup (no cash via the mail, eBay!). We require that paperwork be completed prior to or at the time of pickup (should you do this in person) or filed back with us if done remotely prior to the car leaving, we typically FedEx paperwork out to you immediately on receiving payment so this is a quick process. The car will be sold on a clear Georgia title in the name of our dealership. We will require a copy of your driver's license to process paperwork. We do not charge any tax to out of state buyers as this is something you handle at the DMV or, naturally, other dealers in all 50 states.

Shipping or pickup must occur within fourteen days of auction close unless discussed with us in advance of your bid. We are happy to refer you to one of the high-quality open or enclosed collector car shipping companies that we use frequently in the normal course of business - and we cannot stress enough the importance of using such a carrier and not a random transport broker or carrier you might find online, particularly as this is a unique and high-quality car in phenomenal condition. For international buyers, we can carry the car to the port of Savannah at no charge or to other ports for a nominal fee, though shipping beyond the U.S. border must be entirely arranged for and paid by you. Please contact us if you need any assistance with logistics and we'll be happy to help. Meanwhile, the car is safe and secure in our Savannah, GA location.

We reserve the right to cancel all bids and end the auction early at any time during the course of the sale should a sale occur outside of eBay as the car has been offered quietly through other channels over the past couple of weeks. We typically do not do this at all and only when full payment has been received from such a buyer will the auction be pulled.

Any legal action associated with this sale from either the buyer or the seller is to take place in the State of Georgia in the Chatham County Courthouse. The bidder/buyer further agrees that any legal action will be heard in Chatham County in the State of Georgia. All legal actions associated with this auction/sale will be governed by the laws of the State of Georgia and buyer agrees to be responsible for all legal costs including, but not limited to, court costs, expenses, attorney fees, cost of process service, and all other costs associated with the normal course of business.
