1999 Porsche 911 Description

I am out of time and over budget in fixing this car, and I've decided to sell it "As Is" so I can move on to the next project. The engine has a rough tick/tap and there is a gear shifting issue, sometimes it shifts hard or with some hesitation. The car sometimes will not start in the P-parked position, but start fine in N-neutral (neutral safety switch?) The ECU code indicates "P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Fault." This has to be investigated further. I've own the car nearly 2 months now and during that time, here are some of the things that have been done. Many of the items below were purchased from Porsche Barrier in Bellevue and installed. An itemized invoice will be provided.
- Variable Camshaft Chain Tensioner, Solenoid, Guide rail kit, Spark plug tubes, O-rings, NGK sparks plugs (with Beru coil packs set-up)
- Oil Pump, scavenge pump seal
- AOS (Air Oil Separator)
- Brake Booster
- Window regulators - both felt crunchy - both replaced. Smooth action on both sides now.
- Gasket, exhaust, cat to mufler
- Gasket, exhaust manifold to header
- Flush & fill transmission fluid; New Filter & Gasket (sump taken out and cleaned thoroughly)
- Mann Air Filter
- Oil change & Mann Oil Filter
- Front hood and back deck struts replaced
- Fabspeed Air Intake (the OEM unit is available and will be supplied with the car)
- Check valves in 2nd Air Injection replaced.
- Radiator Flush & Fill - Pentofrost SF Antifreeze

Tires currently on the car – Nitto 555 Extreme ZRUltra high performance in good condition.

Sunroof - works great!

Known issues / Things to be done:

Steering wheel - The nice looking steering wheel does not belong on this car. It is from a manual and this car is Tiptronic. The manual function can not be engaged because the paddle shifters/buttons are missing. Whoever fitted it, apparently forgot to hook up both the airbag and the horn. It is very possible that by replacing it with the correct type, and using the M-manual function, the gear shifting mentioned above can be brought to normal.

Fuel line replacement – fuel lines were spliced at some point, and a low quality hose was used.I refitted the lines with a high quality (Gates brand) fuel injection hose and used double clamps where space allowed. There are no safety issues in this department, but ideally the two fuel lines should be replaced (Porsche part number 99620126508 and 99620127504).I will supply the diagram.

Wheel lug key needed – a safety lug key is needed to undo the front lug bolts. The ones in the back are missing.

Rear left strut – is leaking and needs replacement.

Driver’s door lock – needs adjustment.Door can be locked/unlocked with the remote just fine, but key does not work.

Driver’s seat – tear across the bottom of seat needs repair.

Paint – car was resprayed in black, but there was some peeling around the mirrors and the engine lid.I’ve touched up those areas and it looks much more presentable now, but likely a professional job is needed.

Carpet – looks quite good, but as you see in the pics, there is a approx a 2 inch worn spot just under the fuse box.

Stereo – Pioneer AVIC-X920BT and a big AMG amplifier in the trunk. There are also all sorts of connections to Bluetooth, Satellite radio, etc.Stereo is currently disconnected from the battery.I did not have time to troubleshoot whether it’s working or not working.

Alternator replacement ? - Not sure about this item. The alternator currently in the car tested initially good, then bad, then good again. The logical thing is to replace it. A good, tested, alternator for replacement will be provided with the car.
Brakes - on the soft side. A professional bleed is recommended, and since the pads are at approx 50% wear, new brake pads.
Engine Lid latch - "Open Trunk" sign comes on and off, even though lid is locked. Likely a sensor issue.
Additional notes - there are some 3-4 subtle dimples on the hood, not sure from what. They are rather subtle and hard to see but I'm providing a side pic above so you can spot them. Also some sandblasting pitting around the front bumper; delamination around the handles and levers as can be seen in the pics.
Items shipped with the vehicle:
- Bag/sack for spare tire
- Genuine OEM Air Pump Check Valve, Porsche # 993.113.245.01
- Genuine OEM Secondary Air Check Valve, Porsche # 993.113.250.03
- OEM Air Intake Hose
- Good, tested, alternator
- Good, tested, battery, used for testing (fully charged)
- Manuals (please see pic)
- One ignition key
All in all, if the engine tick/tap does not bother you too much, and are patient enough to work through some of the issues listed above, this is a great deal.
