Classic 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo (951)
1987 Porsche 944 Description
A classic, well maintained, 944 Turbo (951) in pretty great shape and incredibly fun to drive. One of only 3,000 cars brought to US in 1987.
Originally from Texas, we purchased the car in 2000 where it lived in Southern California for 13 years, then three years in Tucson. Always garaged. Start it up and listen to the whine of the turbo, just itching to get going. Strong engine, five speed, turbo charged 4-cylinder. Almost perfectly balanced from front to rear (51/49), it hugs the road, especially when powering into a corner.
Power steering, power brakes. Leather seats (driver's seat is a bit worn), original carpeting in excellent shape. Rear has the retractable tonneau cover. Rear seats fold down flat to provide lots of space. Original tool kit, all manuals, including owner's, Haynes repair, and 944 tips included. Radio was replaced with an AM/FM Alpine with single CD. Works great. Includes an in-dash CD holder (also have the factory original tray). Ground effects package included (not mounted or pictured). Yokohama tires have plenty of tread. Original phone dial wheels repainted and powder-coated. New hood-emblem, turbo name plate and Porsche sticker on the back.
After purchasing the car in 2000, the independent Porsche garage in Agoura, CA went through the car and replaced/repaired whatever was needed totaling over $11K in parts and labor. In 2002 we elected to have the car repainted. No accidents or damage, we just wanted a nice new paint job. The paint was 15 years old at that time and the front nose area of the car needed attention. The car was painted with Porsche colors at a body shop that was connected with a Chevrolet dealership in Simi Valley, CA with a specialty for classic cars. They pulled everything off of the car, fixed any minor dings and dents, repainted including clear coat and re-assembled. The windshield (pitting) and some other body related parts were replaced in the process. It left the body shop and went to a detailing shop to be finished.
The paint today is overall in very good condition. There are no dents or dings. The front nose of the car and the 2 front corners take all of the wind, dust, sand as well as any rocks and bugs. You will find a few small chips that are visible in the front nose area but in no way significantly detract from the overall appearance and condition of the finish on the car. The pictures tell the story.
Whatever the 944 turbo needed mechanically through the years, we invested. We have all maintenance records since 2000. Timing belt was changed in 2000, then again 30,000 miles later. AC system has new expansion valve, o-rings, clutch and a rebuilt compressor, fully intact, needs service. Only serviced by certified Porsche trained mechanics. No accidents; straight and true. Pressure regulator recently replaced on the braking system. No other brake issues reported. The Power steering pressure hose and the power steering supply hose, and some misc. related parts were recently updated.

Around the 170K mark, the front struts were pulled and sent to a specialty house in Burlington, WA, for conversion to inserts. The Koni 8641-1414 Sport insert gives you the legendary Koni quality, handling and ride quality. It's no secret that every M474 Sport Shock equipped car and every M030 Sport Suspension car came equipped from the factory with Koni Sport Yellow struts and shocks. Porsche recognized that Koni gave the 944 and 968 series cars the performance they were looking for and you will too. (see features below) A front end alignment followed.
Features•KONIs are not the average shock absorber, they feature a number of standards that make them unique:•ADJUSTABLE - KONIs are adjustable, which means that you can influence the behavior of the car to meet your preferences (ride comfort, handling balance, etc.). It also means that wear can be compensated. (However, you will probably never need it.)•TAILORMADE - They are designed for a specific car or even special driving conditions. A KONI is not a simple copy of the original but a tailor made design to get the best handling and ride characteristics from the vehicle.•IMPROVEMENT - KONIs improve the ride and handling of your car. The damping characteristics are developed for each particular application. Our specialists keep on testing and modifying until they are convinced they reached the optimum in both handling and comfort.
