1984 Porsche 911 Targa Description

Awesome 2-owner car in my possession since 2001. Mobil1 full synthetic every 3K miles since purchase. No rust. Stock 5-speed 915 transmission shifts well. NO engine modifications.
In 2015 I invested $5K in:
  • A new clutch,
  • Transmission syncro kit (full 915 transmission rebuild),
  • Gear linkage, and
  • Engine block fixes for leaking downtubes.
  • Item (4) in particular reduced "weeping" to about 3 or 4 drops a day (90% less than it did). Known mechanical defects: stuck heater cables, AC has never worked, and the targa top generates window noise on the highway. Overall: Tires are great, and other than that the car is extremely tight, reliable and strong.

This car has NOT been in any driving accident that produced structural damage. However, it was the victim of one parking lot incident (while parked). While approaching the car after a soccer game, in March of 2011 I saw the car parked opposite mine backed into the rear. The fix required rear fender and trunk lid re-paint. Within a week we concluded that 20-year old faded (e.g. pinkish Guards Red) paint was impossible to match. As a solution, the bodyshop who had the car wanted $12K for a full glass-out repaint. After a 2-month stand-off with their insurance company, their only solution was to declare the car a total loss, producing the settlement that funded full repaint and restoration. Since parking lot affair was uncontested and needed no Police Report, Carfax shows 0 Accidents. This incident is also why today you see seats and the early 90s bumper kit. Both bumpers show stress cracks. Mechanically the car is in excellent condition.

    Notes:
  • Actual mileage at auction start is 123,850. I added 50 miles in the listing to account for miles I may drive in the next 7 days.
  • You may have seen this car when it was first listed on 4/21 with mention of a G50 transmission. That was incorrect, I ended that listing, and this listing corrects that. Sorry, that was not intentional.
