He's my buddy and a gentleman.Back in 2011 he was scheduled to instruct at an HPDE in Daytona.He was looking forward to getting a little wheel time with some friends and his student had recently purchased a brand new GT3 RS.There's the connection.
The student was a big oil guy that was just getting into his new hobby and he developed an important relationship with my friend.While at the event he also made a connection with a veteran technician for a large Porsche franchise that went on to be the lead technician for the Porsche restoration center in Atlanta.In a way you could definitely say that he is one of the top Porsche technicians in the world.After the HPDE the student decided that he wanted to modify the vehicle and turn it into a dedicated track car with all the best components installed by the technician that he'd made friends with in Atlanta.It's had the very best professional care possible.
The 3.8 was replaced with the 4.0. It was a brand new engine purchased from Porsche. The technician kept the vehicle for 2 months and carefully documented and photographed each modification. The total investment was over $300,000. The winning bidder will receive all the documentation and a cache of parts that were upgraded including the doors and hood which were changed to carbon fiber components. The parts cache does NOT include the seats or the steering wheel.The previous owner tells me that the car now weighs approximately 2700 pounds and was never wrecked.
A couple of months ago the student told my instructor buddy that it was time to move on from the GT3 RS and that he would be very happy to sell it to him. Often with items like this they are kept in tight circles and it's not the money but the relationships and experiences that hold true value. My friend was so excited to have an opportunity to own it but he had just bought a Cayman GT4 and the car was really more than what fit his needs. He had asked me about the car and had me check the history with Porsche. When he told me that he would not buy it, I asked him if he would see if the owner would sell it to me for our inventory. I'm pretty sure that the owner would have never sold it to a dealer but because of my relationship with his instructor and friend he said yes. So, here it is...
