It improves steering response and steering precision. At high speed and when accelerating out of corners, the rear differential lock, with infinitely variable torque distribution, ensures greater driving stability. But what does that mean for the driver? Remarkable stability, easier handling and outstanding traction. BURMESTER HIGH END SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM 100)" ng-click="show = !show" >Close -inc: individually controllable loudspeakers, 300-watt active subwoofer and a total output of more than 1000 watts, A natural, richly textured spatial sound w/excellent level stability is achieved through 16-channel amplifier technology including a 25-cm active subwoofer w/class D digital amplifier combined w/the use of special ribbon tweeters (air motion transformers (AMT)), a total diaphragm surface area of more then 2400 cm2 and a microphone for interior-noise compensation Porsche Panamera's $4,400.00 Burmester audio system: So good, you'll forget to steerWe headed up to Silverstone recently and hopped into the Porsche Panamera Turbo -- the company's first four-door luxury saloon. It sounds like a recipe fortyre-shredding hooliganism, but our intention wasn't to drive the car. Oh no: we went up there to listen to its radio. That might sound like we've got our priorities wrong, until you realise that the stereo in question was designed, built and hand-installed by German hi-fi supremos Burmester Audiosysteme -- a company that doesn't sell hi-fis for less than $30,000 a pop and thinks nothing of charging$50,000 for a CD player. Before listening to the sound system, Porsche insisted we take the Panamera Turbo for a spin to get a sense of how the pinnacle of German automotive engineering compares to the pinnacle of German audio engineering. The car was definitely fun, dispatching 0-60mph in a Aston Martin DBS-destroying 4 seconds, and acquitting itself around Porsche's handling-test circuit with an agility that belies its size and, seemingly, the laws of physics. As good as it was though, it's the Burmestersound system that stole the show. Its mid-range audio reproduction in particular is staggering. Fire upJunior Bby Yello and you'll be mesmerised at the way the system renders mid-range tones. The track's silky female vocal and melancholy strings dance around each other with a clarity that almost fools you into thinking you were hearing it live. Many high-end sound systems fail to deliver in the low end, but the Burmester setup excels here, too. Listen toOur Own Happinessby X-Dreamand you'll feel as if the subwoofer is kicking you in the spine. In a nice way. It's never too overpowering though, since the sound is always balanced. The tonally elaborateDanse Macabre, Op. 40was rendered with such precision that were there not people around, we could have wept. Everything about the Burmester sound system is enormous. Even at low volume, sound was delivered with a strength and presence virtually unheard of in anything outside of the very best high-end home setups -- even at high-speed cruising. A sound-conditioning microphone located on the car's ceiling detects ambient noise levels, adjusting the audio to compensate for the drone of the Panamera's sporty exhaust and the burble of its twin-turbocharged V8. It achieves its near-perfect audio reproduction thanks to a set of 16 speakers -- which isn't outrageous, considering cars such as theJaguar XJhave as many as 20.Burmester says the comparatively low speaker count is of little relevance, however, as those 16 speakers have a combined diaphragm area of 2,400cm² -- a record for any factory-fitted sound system. Power is delivered by two subwoofers -- one 16-channel, 700W unit driving the woofers and tweeters, and a separate 300W Class-D amp powering a 250mm (10-inch) subwoofer in the Panamera's considerable boot. Impressively, the total weight of the system totals less than 12kg, so performance enthusiasts needn't worry about extra drag affecting the car's performance. However @ $6,800 for the Panorama we drove, It is not cheap. Would that put us off buying it? Not in the slightest. The poor format support is a little diffcult to swallow, but the quality of sound from CDs makes up for it -- and then some. We've heard some wonderful in-car audio systems in our time, but this Burmester setup shows them all up. No matter what type of music you throw at it, it'll throw it back in a way that will render you speechless every time. Buy a Panamera just so you can have a listen. While you're cracking open your piggy bank, have a look through our photo gallery. | $4,440 |

ACTIVE REAR SPOILER WITH 17 DEGREES OF AUTOMATIC VARIATION DEPENDING ON SPEED AND BRAKING The new Porsche Panamera sedan’s deploying rear wing has a couple of fascinating elements: It varies its angle of attack based on speed, and on the fasterPanamera Turbo, it unpacks with two extensions that slide out like a Vegas dealer slinging cards.Airplanes, spit wads, and Porsches all have one thing in common. They are all solid objects moving through the air, governed by the four forces of flight: lift, drag, thrust, and weight. Anything will attempt to fly given enough thrust, and the 4400-pound Panamera Turbo has 520(565 on over boost) horsepower worth. The Panamera’s body, like the wing of a simple airplane, is flat below and curved up top. As air passes around it, the body naturally generates lift, enough at high speeds to reduce traction and affect directional stability. Early first-gen Audi TTs proved great lift generators, and a few waggled their way into guardrails before the model sprouted a rear wing. The Panamera creates negative lift by deploying an upside-down wing from its tail. But a wing also generates drag, which “drags” down fuel economy. Porsche’s solution: Generate only as much negative lift as is needed for a given speed. The Panamera’s wing remains stowed just below the rear window until 56 mph. At that speed, the wing deploys on motorized struts, up and out of the low-pressure boundary layer close to the body and into the denser air a few inches above, where it can get a good bite. It starts at an attack angle of -3 degrees, or with the leading edge slightly higher (the wing is upside down, remember). In the 400-hp Panamera S and 4S, the wing changes to an angle of +5 degrees—leading edge down—at 99 mph and +14 degrees at 127 mph. In the Turbo, which has slightly blockier aerodynamics, the wing unpacks at 56 mph with two extensions, increasing the surface area for additional negative lift. The Turbo’s wing also starts at -3 degrees, then jumps to +10 degrees at 127 mph. At high speeds, the wing not only reduces lift but creates downforce. Porsche figures a Panamera wing will spend most of its days stowed or at the initial setting, a mild angle that generates slight negative lift without greatly affecting the drag coefficient (0.29 for the S and 4S, 0.30 for the Turbo). At higher speeds, good fuel economy is less vital than maintaining a precise, controlled trajectory, which is as important to Porsches as it is to spit wads. -------------------------------------------------Car And Driver 2014 Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport ExecutiveAll it needs is a "Screw You" bumper sticker.Few automobiles so accurately channel the concept off#@k everyoneas the 2014 Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Pkg Executive. Like the707-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcatand theMercedes-Benz G63 AMG, this Porsche’s extreme speed and incongruence with societal norms bestow upon owners a rarified and awesome offensiveness akin to, say, owning a strip club or being Bernie Ecclestone. Let’s run down what takes the Panamera Turbo Sport Executive to that echelon. There’s the sheer cost of the thing, which makes a perverse sort of sense given that the long-wheelbase Executive series wasinserted into the Panamera lineup for 2014(coinciding witha model-wide refresh) largely so that Porsche could charge more for a Panamera than ever before. In the Turbo Sport Executive guise, the Executive carries a suitably exclusive base price of $162,495. As they say, the devil is in the options, and extras floated our test car to$201,775. Up next is gratuitous speed, provided here courtesy of a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V-8 shared with the regular-length Panamera Turbo S. The Turbo engine produces 560 horsepower and 570 lb-ft (Using the optional"S" Sport Chrono Plus with "S" over boost.)(A slight decrease of of 10 and 20 over the Panamera Turbo S), feeds it through Porsche’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and then to all four wheels. Curiously, the slightly more powerful S takes 0.2-second longer than the less-powerfulTurbo Executiveto hit 60 mph(3.3 seconds)—it still completes the deed in 3.5 seconds—but by 100 mph, the S pulls ahead. It hits 150 mph a full 1/2 second quicker and eventually stops accelerating at 192 mph. However the Pano Turbo with the Sport Package(all the "S" goodies) still takes the stoplight drag @ 3.3 mind numbing seconds. This is Ferrari 458, Supercharged Z06, and Audi R8 V10 territory. We can only deduce the power band is altered between the two cars to allow full power all the time in the S.We also found in back to back drives, the ceramic brakes to be very noisy and grabby. The over sized Turbo steel, alloy brakes had better modulation and braked better in street driving. For the track, once ceramics heat up, they are exceptional brakes if you plan on tracking your car frequently. Thecoup de grâce, of course, is that the Turbo Sport Pkg. Executive makes no practical or logical sense. Standing apart in the world of long-wheelbase luxury sedans, the Turbo Sport Executive demands that its rear-seat occupants strap into two full-blown sport seats with body-hugging and suit-wrinkling bolsters. Coddling doesn’t factor into the equation. There are however full power seats with ortho function as well as cooled and heated seats. The longer wheelbase serves only to help the Panamera There’s the sheer cost of the thing, which makes a perverse sort of sense given that the long-wheelbase Executive series wasinserted into the Panamera lineup for 2014(coinciding witha major model-wide refresh) largely so that Porsche could charge more for a Panamera than ever before. In range-topping Turbo Executive guise, the Executive carries a suitably exclusive base price of $161,240. As they say, the devil is in the options, and extras floated our test car to$201,775. Thecoup de grâce, of course, is that the Turbo Executive makes no practical or logical sense. Standing apart in the world of long-wheelbase luxury sedans, the Turbo Executive demands that its rear-seat occupants strap into two full-blown sport seats with body-hugging and suit-wrinkling bolsters. The rear seats are full power with ortho adjustments,Heated and Cooled with a full separate rear Climate Control System. The longer wheelbase serves only to help the Panamera to improve its looks from the squashed design to a more elegant LWB. Amazing what 6 inches will do. And to create a whole lot more space for rear passengers to flail about while the driver explores the car’s reserve of 1.04 g’s of grip and ability to stop from 70 mph in 142 feet. The über-un-limo does all of this whilebraaap braaaaaaping antisocially from its quad exhaust outlets,(With the optional 2 Stage Sport NASCAR sounding exhaust,) the trick three-part rear wing folding, tilting, and unfolding as speeds vary. Launch control is entertaining. There’s no neck snapping or chest compression—the event is damped like you’d expect in something that’s 203.4 inches long and weighs 4638 pounds. The Porsche simply lists onto its rear tires and shuffles off like a steroidal Cinderella chasing a wheeled pumpkin. Is it any surprise we averaged 12 mpg? We highly advise checking the boxes for the mind reading Radar Cruise, The Excellent Rear Entertainment, and of course the must have Sport Pkg, that includes all the Turbo S chassis, performance and handling goodies. A wise man would take his quarter-of-a-million bucks and spend it on a911andaMercedes S550. The other guy, who we assume is Porsche’s target customer for this Panamera, doesn’t care if bystanders peg him as someone who bursts into dinner parties unannounced, pants-less, flipping two birds to the sky, and hollering for the hosts’ teenage daughter to come take a ride. Even when it wasn’t belching, warp driving and bellowing around at a frenetic pace, the Porsche managed to piss people off.It is just in your face performance. The Turbo Sport even toldusto shove it from its perch atop a flatbed, and we still loved it. -------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Congratulations! | It's your eBay anniversary--year 22 | redlinefun, We want to say thanks and let you know how much we value having you as an eBay community member.
