1961 KARMANN BODIED CABRIOLET
In 1961 Porsche contracted with Karmann Body Werks to produce a new body style for the 356. The " Notchback " coupe was designed to increase sales by offering two fixed roof styles. This new stylealso served two objectives. One to offer anew body style and second to have a second company to produce bodies for the 356 incase of disruptions with their current supplier Reutter body werks. The new Karmann design accomplished this bybuildingaCabriolet body and welding a "Notchback" top to the body. This new body stylethen would secure a supply of Notchback and Cabriolet bodies in case of any disruptions with their current supplier.
