This means that even though the car is larger than the outgoingmodel, it is still up to 50 kilograms (110 lb) lighter. The reduced weight andincreased power means that both the Carrera and Carrera S are appreciablyfaster than the outgoing models. The 0–60 mph (97 km/h) time for the manualtransmission cars are 4.6 seconds for the Carrera and 4.3 seconds for theCarrera S. When equipped with PDK the 991 models can accelerate from 0–60 mphin 4.4 seconds and 4.1 seconds for the Carrera and Carrera S respectively. Withthe optional sports chrono package, available in cars with the PDKtransmission, the 991 Carrera can accelerate from 0–60 mph in as little as 4.2seconds and the Carrera S can do the same in 3.9 seconds. This seventh-generation architecture advances the ongoingrefinement of the 911's signature rear-engine layout, with a longer wheelbase,improved road holding, new technology and better fuel efficiency. Only theTurbo models remain on the previous (997) foundation, probably for this finalyear. For now, Targa and GTS models are off the menu. Porsche allows devoteesto revel in the light steering, quick direction changes and strong braking thatthe 911's unique tail-heavy layout affords while progressively taming thetendency to spin when the cornering limit it exceeded.
