HISTORY:

This Porsche has been a one-owner car through 2014.Currently the third owner of the car is offering this

car for sale on consignment with Orbit Car Sales. The car was purchased about a year ago by one of our good customers with the intention of showing the car in local car shows. Our customer spent almost a year looking for the right car, with the main goal of getting the most original, lowest mile car that his bank account could afford. After a long search throughout the USA this car was purchased in Louisiana from its second owner, just after its original owner had decided to sell the car from its long-time home in Portland, OR.Life circumstances now force the sale of this truly beautiful car as the current owner will not have the time to enjoy the car that he spent so much effort in finding.

THE DRIVE:

It is seldom discussed when purchasing a Porsche these days but years ago before a 930 was a collector car or an investment we actually cared about how the cars performed out on the road. These days it is unlikely that somebody will buy a 79 930 with 7241 original miles on it and turn it into a daily driver but I don’t feel that you can represent a car properly if you don’t know the car, and part of knowing the car is the driving experience.Every car has a personality, those things that you just put up with of those things that at the time of manufacture just represented the technical limits of the time.So I headed out of the workshop on a beautiful Sunday morning with the task of accessing the inherent oversteer and Turbo lag that used to be known as the weakness of the 930 Turbo.Guess what?I drove the car and had so much fun that I never any noticed of oversteer, I did not feel the need to push this car to its limits while snapping the throttle off and on going into a corner. What I did feel was a pure driving experience, four tires giving you a very direct feel through the suspension and into the steering wheel and the seat of your pants. After driving many 930 Turbos in the last 30 years I was particularly looking forward to driving this low mileage, original car to see if my senses remembered what they felt like when they were “new”.Without any disappointments I can tell you it was a wonderful 15 miles.During the drive I was checking the boost guage, putting heat in the brakes, rowing through the gears, and lookingin the rear view mirror at those bulging rear flares.Yes, you have to push the clutch in all the way before you engage reverse or you will get a little grind, but that is just like it was when it was new, there is no synchro on reverse gear in the four-speed gearbox. The Turbo lag was there and so enjoyable.Shift gears, full throttle, then count – one thousand one, one thousand two… then the boost comes onright around 4000 RPM and the 930 comes alive and throws you gently back in your seat with 260 HP.The gear selection in this car is just as it should be, original, direct, with a long throw to give you time to get the clutch pushed in and out.Although the engine performance is nothing impressive by todays standards if you were like me and driving non-Turbo charged Porsches when you were you young, every time you feel the boost kick in you smile – it really doesn’t matter how fast you are going.
